North Bend Central drops third straight at Shelby-Rising City

The Shelby-Rising City Football Team got the best of North Bend Central in a matchup of 5-2 teams in Shelby Friday night as the Huskies won 34-14.

Shelby-Rising City struck first at the 5:45 mark of the 1st quarter as Quarterback Mason Schleis scampered 14 yards for a TD to make it 7-0 in favor of the Huskies.

Shelby-Rising City scored again less than 3 minutes later as Schleis threw a 32-yard TD pass to Jett Pinneo to give the Huskies a 14-0 lead with under three minutes left to go in the opening period.

The Tigers sliced the lead in half at the 9:50 mark of the 2nd quarter as Quarterback Austin Endorf connected with Sam Buckingham on a 9-yard TD pass to make it 14-7 in favor of Shelby-Rising City.

Moments later, Endorf found John Emanuel for a 14-yard TD strike, and the game was nodded up at 14, which would be the halftime score.

The Huskies broke the tie with 9:40 remaining in the 3rd quarter as Max Hoatson scored from 6 yards out to put Shelby-Rising City ahead 20-14.

Schleis scored from three yards out with just over 8 minutes remaining in the 4th quarter to put the Huskies ahead 28-14.

He scored from a yard out with just over a minute left to make up the final score.

Endorf was 30-41 passing for 278 yards with two touchdowns for North Bend Central. Emanuel hauled in 17 passes for 112 yards and the one TD.

Defensively, Breckin Peters had 8 tackles, 2 sacks, and an interception. Joe Howser and Ben Rolenc added 8 tackles apiece while Gavin Peterson notched 7.

The Tigers amassed 292 yards of offense, including 278 through the air, while the Huskies had 331 yards of total offense, 182 of them passing.

Head Coach Ryan Stieren says his team shot themselves in the foot way too much. "We had our chances to win this game but we had a lot of inopportune things happen to us -- penalties on 3rd or 4th down that gave them so many more chances as well as letting the QB get away when we had him wrapped up for a sack on 3rd down, instead he got away and threw a 60 yard TD. At times we moved the ball really well but couldn't get anything going in the 2nd half. I give Shelby a lot of credit, they are a good team and have a very good defense. We must clean it up and play well next week against a tough David City team."

North Bend Central (5-3), who has lost three straight, hosts David City (4-4) Friday night in the regular season finale.

The Scouts lost 41-7 at home to Centennial last week.

The Tigers have to find a way to right the ship and win this one.

North Bend Central could still make the playoffs with a win, but a win ensures and guarantees a playoff berth for the Tigers.

North Bend Central has to find a way to get off the schneid and bounce back from the disappointment of the last three weeks.

The Tigers have to rebound and find a way to rediscover the magic they played with in the first five games of the season.

North Bend Central has to establish their run game, and be balanced offensively.

Endorf also needs to have a big game for the Tigers.

I feel North Bend Central has taken five steps forward and three steps back this season, and now it's time to take another step forward.

I thought the Tigers did some nice things against the Huskies despite the loss, and were close to breaking through, but couldn't quite do it.

I look for North Bend Central to breakthrough this week and find a way to win.

The game might be tight and close, but I feel the Tigers will pull it out and head to the playoffs at 6-3.

North Bend Central is going to get David City's best shot though so the Tigers have to be ready to go.

North Bend Central has to play a complete four quarter game, and can't get too excited during the game if they get up or something.

The Tigers have to be fired and pumped up, but must keep a level head as well.

Emotions figure to be running high for North Bend Central, their players, coaches, and fans, and the Tigers have to go out there and find a way to win.

Just win baby...that's all North Bend Central has to do.

It doesn't matter if the Tigers win by 1 or 30...just as long as they win.
