Stanton shutout at home by Ponca

The Stanton Football Team was shutout 34-0 at home by Ponca Friday night.

Marcus Spotanski was 7-19 passing for 129 yards with three interceptions. Sutton Pohlman made 5 catches for 69 yards.

Zak Hansen had 17 tackles while Pohlman made 16. Alek Reese notched 12 while Gage Tighe and Trey Elbert totaled 11 each. Parker Krusemark and Cade Goger made 8 apiece.

The Mustangs had 175 yards of total offense, including 129 through the air.

I think one difference in the game was Stanton's inability to run the football.

The Mustangs (2-5) host Norfolk Catholic (6-1) Friday night.

The Knights won 21-7 at home over Battle Creek last week.

This figures to be an extremely tough game for Stanton, probably the toughest of the season so far, but the Braves gave Norfolk Catholic a game, and the Mustangs have to think they can too.

I don't think the Ponca game was Stanton's best effort and performance.

I look for the Mustangs to put up a fight and play hard this week.

I think you will see Stanton play with a lot of pride and fight.

This is the last home game of the season for the Mustangs...the last time these seniors will ever dawn the Black, Orange, and White on their home field.

Stanton has to go out there and play with tremendous fight and pride, and show the Knights what they are made of.

The Mustangs can't give up, quit, or throw in the towel...Stanton has to keep fighting and battling until the very end.

Pohlman needs to have a big game for the Mustangs, and Spotanski has to throw the ball well and limit turnovers.

Spotanski has been around a long time and he needs to go out a high note in his final home game in a Stanton uniform.

The Mustangs have a chance to upset perhaps the best dynasty ever in the state of Nebraska for High School Football.

Stanton is hosting a great team, program, and coach Friday night.

Norfolk Catholic is among the best of the best when it comes to championships and Football Royalty.

I'm sure both teams will really respect one another.

Displaying good Sportsmanship is going to be important for the Mustangs too.

High School Football is so much more than just about the score on the scoreboard and the wins and losses, it's about life lessons and leading young men.

So hopefully Stanton will play well Friday night, but also learn a lot from this game that will help them in their lives after High School.
