Pender wins in shootout over Cedar Bluffs
The Pender Football Team picked up a 92-70 win at Cedar Bluffs Friday night.
The Wildcats led 20-14 after one before the Pendragons doubled them up 40-20 in the 2nd quarter to take a 54-40 lead into the locker room.
Pender outscored Cedar Bluffs 24-6 in the 3rd quarter to go up 78-46 at the end of three.
The Wildcats won the 4th quarter 24-14.
Dylan Vogt had 210 yards rushing on 21 carries and five touchdowns. Jaydon Jump added 183 yards on the ground on 16 carries, and scored twice. Caleb Trimble was 1-1 passing for 54 yards with a touchdown, which went to Vogt.
Vogt made 11 tackles while Sam Mailoux had 7.
The Pendragons racked up 477 yards of total offense, 388 coming on the ground.
Good win for Pender, and a nice way to respond following the loss to Clarkson/Leigh.
The Pendragons (2-3) take on Mead (2-3) on the road Friday night.
The Raiders lost 54-14 at Emerson-Hubbard last week.
Big game with playoff implications for both squads.
Both teams are on the outside looking in in terms of the playoffs, and it could very well be a situation where the winner gets in and the loser doesn't.
Pender has Emerson-Hubbard and Omaha Christian Academy to end the regular season, and I think the Pendragons are going to need to win at least two out of their last three games to make the playoffs.
Beating Emerson-Hubbard figures to be tougher than beating Mead so this is one is absolutely critical for Pender.
Lose this one and the Pendragons have their backs against the walls.
Not that Pender can't beat Emerson-Hubbard, because anything can happen, but if the Pendragons fall to the Raiders then beating the Pirates figures to be a very tall task.
Pender needs the same offensive explosion and production, and has to be sound defensively.
Mead is a decent team, and going into their house and winning doesn't figure to be easy.
It can definitely be done though, the Pendragons just have to go in there with the right attitude.
Pender has to go in there expecting to win, not just hoping to win.
The Pendragons can't think it's okay to lose because you definitely want to win.
I'm not saying Pender should win at all costs, but it's definitely no fun to lose.
The Pendragons need to do everything in their power to make sure they win, and should honestly have a strong passion and desire to win.
Pender has to have the mindset that they are going to go into Mead and dominate from the opening snap.
The Pendragons can't think the Raiders are better or have the upper hand, not by any means.
Pender has to play their tails off and play lights out football, and take it to Mead for 4 quarters and see if that's good enough to pick up a win.
