BRLD wins opener over Tekamah-Herman

The BRLD Football Team opened up the season with a 44-24 win at home over Tekamah-Herman Friday night.

The Wolverines got up 6-0 after one and led 14-0 at halftime.

BRLD went up 38-8 at the end of three and led 44-8 before Tekamah-Herman put up a pair of touchdowns in the 4th quarter.

The Wolverines surrendered 311 yards of total offense, including 195 through the air.

A win is always good to open up the season, but I'm sure BRLD wishes they would have finished the game stronger.

Still though pretty neat how the Wolverines took the field with just 10 players on their first offensive play to honor fallen teammate Tyler Vavra, who died in a car accident this past offseason, and Tekamah-Herman declined the penalty.

BRLD (1-0) takes on Oakland-Craig (1-0) on the road Friday night in action that can be heard on 107.9 the Bull.

The Knights won 50-0 at Ponca last week.

Oakland-Craig won 40-30 in a battle of unbeatens to end the regular season at BRLD last year.

You know the Wolverines have payback on their minds, but the Knights have a ton of guys back from last year and BRLD lost a lot of players.

Of course last year BRLD had everyone back and Oakland-Craig lost everybody yet the Knights went undefeated and won the State Championship so we'll see what happens this year.

I think the key for the Wolverines is to not fall behind early.

If Oakland-Craig gets up and gets in a rhythm they very well may score touchdown after touchdown and win going away.

BRLD can't let that happen though...the Wolverines need to strike early and do what they can to keep things close until the 4th quarter and then try and win it.

Make it a four quarter game and give yourself a chance in the end.

I think that's what BRLD has to hope for Friday night.

Kickoff from Oakland is set for 7:00 p.m. with pregame at 6:30 on the Bull.
