The North Bend Central Football Team blanked Arlington 3-0 on the road Friday night.
The following is from Head Coach Ryan Stieren:
Ethan Mullally scored on a 5-yard run to cap a 9 play 80-yard drive on our first drive. The rest of the first half was a defensive struggle for both teams until we scored on a 39-yard pass from Brodey Johnson to Kaden Juhl to take a 14-0 lead into the half.
In the 3rd quarter we outscored them 16-0. To cap our first drive, Jarrett Poessnecker hit a 32 yard field goal. We recovered on onside kick and then Brodey Johnson hit Austin Taylor on a 27-yard touchdown pass to put us up 24-0. On the next drive, Breckin Peters intercepted a pass before Ethan Mullally scored on a 5-yard run to put us up 30-0 and that is how it ended.
Offensively, Ethan Mullally rushed 26 times for 120 yards and 2 TDs. Brodey Johnson was 21-30 for 225 yards 2 TDs and 1 Int. Kaden Juhl caught 3 passes for 69 yards and a touchdown and Austin Taylor caught 5 passes for 63 yards and a touchdown. Defensively, we were led Austin Taylor who had 8 tackles and an interception. Also, Breckin Peters had 6 tackles and an interception.
The Tigers had 373 yards of total offense, including 225 through the air.
The defense held the Eagles to just 118 yards of total offense, including 94 rushing.
"Defense and Special Teams were near flawless for us tonight. Offense had spurts of explosive plays but we were too inconsistent overall. I am extremely happy for our defense and our defensive coordinator, Coach Brokaw, because they played extremely well. The challenge ahead of us is as big as we have encountered in my time as the leader of this program -- we are excited to see how we stack up against a giant. We will prepare well and we will go after them."
That giant is perennial power Pierce (2-0).
The Bluejays won 41-21 at home over Columbus Lakeview last week.
Pierce also beat 2019 Class C-2 Semifinalist St. Paul 55-38 in the opening week.
NBC is also 2-0, and poses another very tough challenge for the Bluejays.
I think it's important for the Tigers to play smashmouth defense once again this week.
I feel like the defensive side of the ball is where this game is going to be won or lost.
I feel like North Bend Central also has to be efficient offensively, but if their defense can do what they did last week and keep the Tigers in the game they could very well win.
Winning at Pierce might be the tallest task in the state, but North Bend Central has to go into the game fearless and must expect to win.
The Tigers have dominated their first two games of the season, but this is by far North Bend Central's first and toughest test of the season so far.
The Tigers have to get jacked and fired up, and must be ready to go out there and play a great, hard hitting, physical football game Friday night.
