The GACC Football Team won 28-12 at home over Lourdes Central Catholic Friday night.
After a scoreless first quarter by both teams, the Bluejays opened things up in the 2nd quarter, outscoring the Knights 16-6 to lead by that score at halftime.
Both teams scored 6 points in the 3rd quarter, and the score was 22-12 at the end of three in favor of GACC.
The Bluejays shutout Lourdes Central Catholic 6-0 in the 4th quarter.
Cash Meier had 83 yards rushing on 16 carries while Coy Kreikemeier ran the ball 20 times for 56 yards, and scored once. Kreikemeier was also 7-12 passing for 80 yards.
Jaryn Smeal made a team leading 15 tackles while Cody Steffen totaled 10, Meier had 9 while Cole Hutchinson notched 7.
GACC had 264 yards of total offense, including 184 on the ground.
Good bounce back win for GACC. The Bluejays really needed this one.
GACC (1-1) entertains Lutheran High Northeast (2-0) at home Friday night.
The Eagles won 66-12 at home over West Holt last week.
LHNE is 2-0, but they have yet to be tested.
The Bluejays will provide the first real stingy test for the Eagles you could say.
Lutheran High Northeast is a tough team and will be difficult for GACC to beat, but the Bluejays have a very proud football tradition, and I fully expect them to compete and keep things close.
GACC is at home too, and I think having the home field advantage will help the Bluejays.
The Eagles have been very good on both sides of the ball, and GACC has to be lights out on both sides as well in order to come away with the win.
I think what's lacking right now for the Bluejays, if anything, is offensive explosion.
In the past, GACC has had that gamebreaker, that player that could break a big run or make a big play at any moment.
The Bluejays don't really have that this year, but I tell you what they do have, a lot of kids who are good solid, fundamental football players.
GACC might not impress you with their flash like in the past, but the Bluejays have a bunch of blue collar kids who bring the lunch pail and get the job done.
GACC will really be tested this week without their usual dynamic ability, but if the Bluejays can hold down LHNE's offense and prevent big plays then I think they have a shot in this one.
It won't be easy, and easier said than done, but anything can happen.
