Oakland-Craig blanks Ponca in Season Opener

The Oakland-Craig Football Team rolled to an easy 50-0 win at Ponca Friday night.

The Knights led 14-0 after one, and blanked the Indians 30-0 in the 2nd quarter to take a 44-0 lead into the locker room.

Oakland-Craig's final touchdown came in the 4th quarter.

Grady Gatewood was 5-6 for 61 yards passing with a touchdown and an interception.

Jaron Meyer had 9 carries for 58 yards and two touchdowns while Coulter Thiele ran the ball twice for 56 yards, and scored once.

Oakland-Craig had 371 yards of total offense, including 273 on the ground.

Big dominating win to start the season for the Knights.

Oakland-Craig (1-0) plays host to BRLD (1-0) Friday night in action that will be aired on 107.9 the Bull.

The Wolverines downed Tekamah-Herman 44-24 at home last week.

Oakland-Craig beat BRLD on the road in last year's regular season finale, 40-30 to finish an unbeaten regular season and hand the Wolverines their first loss of the year.

The Knights will be ready once again you can bet that, but so will BRLD.

You know the Wolverines will want to get payback after what happened last year.

Oakland-Craig has a lot of guys back from last year, and BRLD lost about everyone, but it was the opposite last year.

Not that that means the Knights will lose or are in a ton of trouble or anything, but it's something to be wary of at the very least.

I think the key to the game is simple for Oakland-Craig...put up points and score touchdowns early and put the game away.

Easier said than done, but based on how most games went last year for the Knights and how last week's game went it could very well likely happen again.

It will be interesting to see how it all plays out that's for sure.

I think it's important for Oakland-Craig to be more physical up front and running the ball than BRLD.

Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. in Oakland with pregame beginning at 6:30 on the Bull.
