BRLD tops Norfolk Catholic

The BRLD Football Team earned a 40-34 victory over Norfolk Catholic on the road Friday night in action aired on 107.9 the Bull.

The Wolverines led 12-7 after one before the Knights won the 2nd quarter 10-6 to make it an 18-17 game at halftime in favor of BRLD.

The Wolverines blanked Norfolk Catholic 14-0 in the 3rd quarter to go up 32-17 at the end of three.

The Knights won the 4th quarter 15-8 to make up the final score.

Will Gatzemeyer was 16-24 passing for 318 yards with three touchdowns. Lucas Vogt hauled in 8 passes for 167 yards and two scores. Jaxon Johnson made 4 catches for 114 yards.

Gatzemeyer added 122 yards rushing on 24 carries, and scored once. Kobe Lyons had 66 yards rushing on 17 carries, and scored twice.

Johnson made 12 tackles while Derek Petersen had 10.

BRLD had 506 yards of total offense, including 318 through the air.

The Wolverines came up with a huge goal line stand on a 4th and 1 play. Head Coach Dan Maresh. "Yeah wow what a play by Jaxon Johnson and company. Able to get that penetration and get him down for that loss. And right after that having a big reception for us so wow that kid can play some football."

Great win for BRLD. Beating the Knights, let alone on their home field, is a huge and tremendous accomplishment.

The Wolverines (4-0) face Yutan (3-1) on the road Friday night.

The Chieftains were upset 28-14 at Johnson County Central last week.

Yutan is improved from last year, but their wins have come over three 0-4 teams.

Still though the Chieftains figure to play hard and tough, and provide a difficult and challenging task for BRLD.

The Wolverines simply cannot afford to have a let down.

As big as the win over Norfolk Catholic was, this is the start of District play and there's still a lot left for BRLD to accomplish.

The Wolverines can't be satisfied and complacent with where they are at right now and beating the Knights....BRLD has to remain hungry.

The Wolverines have to refocus themselves on Yutan and come out and play hard and play smashmouth, in your face Football.

BRLD's offense was great last week, but I feel the Wolverines can still be better defensively.

BRLD's defense hasn't been bad, but I feel it can be more dominant than it has been.

Great defenses win championships, and that's something the Wolverines need to establish and develop yet this season for sure.

BRLD has to go out there Friday night and turn in a dominating performance on both sides of the ball.

The Wolverines can move the ball, there's no doubt about that, but BRLD has to take more steps and make more strides defensively this week.

The Wolverines have to jump out to a big lead and put the Chieftains away.

I thought BRLD let Norfolk Catholic hang around longer than they would have liked so we'll see if the Wolverines can put the proverbial nail in the coffin on Yutan this week.

BRLD has to shut the door and show the Chieftains' who their boss is.

The Wolverines have to be relentless on offense and defense, and play a complete game on both sides of the ball.
