Pender loses at home to Homer
The Pender Football Team fell 47-20 at home to Homer Friday night.
The Knights led 8-0 at the end of one, and doubled up the Pendragons 12-6 in the 2nd quarter to take a 20-6 lead into the locker room.
Homer won the 3rd quarter 21-14 to go up 41-20 at the end of three.
The Knights claimed the 4th quarter 6-0.
Caleb Trimble ran the ball 19 times for 129 yards and scored once. Dylan Vogt had 18 carries for 87 yards.
Trimble had 9 tackles while Larry McManigal made 7.
Pender had 309 yards of total offense, 264 coming on the ground.
Homer had 496 yards of total offense, including 255 rushing.
The Knights are certainly one of the biggest surprise stories in the area if not the state that is for sure.
The Pendragons (1-1) host Randolph (0-2) Friday night.
The Cardinals lost 50-24 at Plainview last week.
Randolph may be 0-2, but they are still a very good football team.
The Cardinals have lost to a couple of tough foes, and will be looking to pick up their first win of the season Friday night.
You can bet Randolph will be ready to go, and be hungry and motivated.
Pender has to put last week behind them and move on.
The Pendragons picked up a huge win in Week 1 over Winnebago and need to do everything they can to pick up win Number 2.
The defense needs to be better for Pender though first and foremost.
The Pendragons have given up a lot of points in their first two games, and were shredded apart defensively last week.
Pender needs to tighten and shore things up on defense and play better.
The offense needs more than Trimble and Vogt carrying the load as well.
The Pendragons need more than a couple of kids making a lot of tackles.
Pender just simply needs to be better and more consistent on both sides of the football.
And the Pendragons can be too, they can turn the corner and improve, but it all starts up front.
Pender has to have great line play on both sides of the ball, and their playmakers have to make plays as well.
The Pendragons have to be motivated, and must want it more than the Cardinals this week.
Pender could really use a boost and lift heading into District play, and a win over Randolph would certainly provide that.
The Pendragons have to go out there Friday night and make it happen.
Pender has to blow the Cardinals off the ball and create havoc in the defensive and offensive backfields.
If the Pendragons can do that then they should be in good shape.
I will add that Pender's run game was very good against Homer and that needs to continue for them to be successful.
