West Point-Beemer wins season opener at Arlington

The West Point-Beemer Football Team won 34-29 at Arlington Friday night in the season opener.

The Cadets got down 13-0 in the 1st quarter before scoring 28 unanswered points to go up 28-13 in the 3rd quarter.

West Point-Beemer led 22-13 at halftime and 28-15 at the end of three.

The Eagles outscored the Cadets 14-6 in the 4th quarter.

West Point-Beemer gave up 376 yards of total offense, including 225 through the air.

The Cadets started slow, but bounced back and found a way to win, and that's all that matters.

West Point-Beemer (1-0) hosts Boys Town (0-1) Friday night.

The Cowboys lost 42-14 at home to Bishop Neumann last week.

I'm not sure who all Boys Town has on the team this year, but the Cowboys are usually pretty talented.

With that said, the Cadets won last year's game 33-13, and I think West Point-Beemer can win again.

Jesus Barragan has to have a big game running the option for the Cadets, and West Point-Beemer has to be sound defensively.

Boys Town is likely going to be skilled and fast so the Cadets have to avoid giving up the big plays.

West Point-Beemer has to make plays on offense and stay ahead of the chains.

The Cadets have to avoid 3rd and longs, and create 3rd and shorts for themselves and find ways to pick up first downs.

West Point-Beemer has to be creative on offense, and has to find different ways to move the ball on the Cowboys.

The offensive line has to create big holes in the run game and throwing lanes in the passing game for Barragan.

I think a lot of things hinge on Barragan's play.

I feel he is the key to success for the Cadets in this one.

I don't know if there's a more important player on either team to his team than Jesus.

He had an electrifying game last week, and I look for that to happen again this week.

Of course we can't forget Alejandro Edeza either. He is a stud and had a great game last week as well.

Those two should provide a solid one-two punch in the backfield for West Point-Beemer once again Friday night.

Being 2-0 heading into the Columbus Scotus game would be a huge positive for the Cadets.

To me there's a big difference being 2-0 and coming off two straight wins as opposed to being 1-1 and coming off a loss.

Often times one win lead to more wins and a loss can result in multiple defeats.
