Stanton loses at home to David City to start year
The Stanton Football Team fell 19-12 at home to David City Friday night.
Gage Tighe had 13 tackles while Issiah Borgmann made 10. Sutton Pohlman had 8 while Parker Krusemark notched 7.
Tough start to the season for the Mustangs.
Stanton (0-1) battles Tekamah-Herman (1-0) on the road Friday night.
The Tigers appear to be a resurgent group, going up to Ponca and rushing for 433 yards while winning 42-12 last week.
I don't have the rushing totals from the David City game, but if memory serves me correct the Mustangs have had issues stopping the run in the past.
Tekamah-Herman is now running a triple option so Stanton figures to have their hands full trying to defend that.
Stanton's defense appeared to be fine against the Scouts, it's just the offense that appears to need some work.
If there's a team and a program that can go on the road and win a big game it is Stanton.
The Mustangs are a well respected and tradition rich program, and will do everything in their power to go up to Tekamah and win, that much you can bet on.
Stanton has to try and slow down Tekamah-Herman's two headed monster in Clay Beaumont and Luke Wakehouse.
Those two combined for over 300 yards rushing against the Indians, and the Mustangs must have a good game plan for trying to slow them down.
Pohlman needs to have a big game, and Stanton has to run the ball well also.
The Mustangs have a lot working against them in this one, but Stanton is definitely capable of going up there and winning.
It feels weird talking about the Mustangs as an underdog against the Tigers, but that's exactly what they are this year.
This game could very well get ugly and out of hand, but Stanton hopes it doesn't.
The thing the Mustangs have to do is put last week behind them and come into Friday night's game a whole brand new team.
Stanton has to start over and reset and be ready to go come Friday night.
The Mustangs got the season opener out of their system now Stanton just has to go out there and play football.
The Mustangs have to be very physical and need to slow down the Tigers' running game.
Stanton can't get worn down either.
