Pender beats Winnebago on last second field goal

The Pender Football Team topped Winnebago 37-36 on the road last Friday night on a game-winning field goal.

The Pendragons got down 8-0 at the end of the 1st quarter, but outscored the Indians 22-14 in the 2nd quarter to tie the game at 22 at halftime.

Winnebago won the 3rd quarter 8-6 to go up 30-28 at the end of three.

Pender won the 4th quarter 9-6 to make up the final score.

Dylan Vogt ran the ball 19 times for 134 yards, and scored twice. Caleb Trimble rushed for 68 yards on 7 carries, and scored two times.

Jaxon Maise had 14 tackles while Trimble made 12. Vogt and Larry McManigal each had 9 while Jaxon Mrsny and Eric Hathaway each made 7.

The Pendragons racked up 247 yards of total offense, including 218 on the ground.

Great win and a great run game for Pender.

The Pendragons (1-0) host Homer (1-0) Friday night.

The Knights blew out Emerson-Hubbard 52-18 at home last Friday night.

Before Homer beat the Pirates I would have said sure win for Pender, but now I'm not so sure.

The Pendragons can definitely win of course, but it doesn't figure to be easy.

The win over the Indians was really good, but Pender needs to play better defense this week to beat the Knights I feel.

Pender also needs to run the ball well against Homer to be successful and come out on top I would say.

I feel like the Pendragons are going to need to play even better against Homer than they did against Winnebago in order to beat the Knights.

The game winning field goal was a thrilling win no doubt and it's something the players and team should always keep as a memory, but they have to be over it by now.

Pender has to be refocused for the Homer game, and be ready to tackle the Knights.

The Pendragons have to go hard in practice this week and really get after things.

Both teams have had an extra week to prepare for one another so there shouldn't be any advantage for either team there.

I look for both squads to really get after it and after one another Friday night.

If it's anything like Pender's game against Winnebago then fans are in for another treat.

I think the game being at Pender is an advantage for the Pendragons, and like Pender to win if the game is close, but based on Homer's win over Emerson-Hubbard I could see the Knights winning big as well.

I don't think the Pendragons will win in blowout fashion, but you never know.
