Stanton loses to North Bend Central
The Stanton Football Team fell 48-28 at home to North Bend Central Friday night.
The Tigers led 6-0 after one, and outscored the Mustangs 21-12 in the 2nd quarter to take a 27-12 lead into the locker room.
North Bend Central blanked Stanton 14-0 in the 3rd quarter to go up 41-12 at the end of three.
The Mustangs outscored the Tigers 16-7 in the 4th quarter to make up the final score.
Issiah Borgmann had 102 yards rushing on 13 carries, including two touchdowns, while Gage Tighe had 15 carries for 101 yards. Sutton Pohlman added 68 yards on the ground on 11 carries.
Pohlman added 11 tackles while Parker Krusemark and Mason Bruggemann totaled 7 apiece.
Stanton had 344 yards of total offense, including 329 yards rushing.
The defense gave up 544 yards of total offense, including 290 on the ground.
I credit the Mustangs for continuing to fight and never give up despite getting down big.
Stanton (1-2) plays host to Fremont Bergan (3-0) Friday night.
The Knights won 23-21 at home over Wilber-Clatonia Friday night.
Bergan only beat Logan View/Scribner-Snyder by a point while North Bend Central drilled the Raiders so I think the Mustangs have a chance in this one.
Stanton could really use this one heading into a District that doesn't look as tough now as it did in the preseason.
If the Mustangs could beat the Knights I think it could springboard them to even bigger and better things.
Stanton has to play better defense and has to get the offense going earlier from a scoring standpoint than they did against North Bend Central.
The Mustangs have to give it all they got and do what they do and throw the kitchen sink at Bergan.
Stanton has to pull out every trick up their sleeve and get creative offensively in this one.
It's going to take something out of the ordinary to beat the Knights so the Mustangs could definitely benefit from executing a trick play or two I feel.
Stanton simply has to come out and play well in all facets of the game.
The Mustangs have to be better against the run and pass than they were against the Tigers.
North Bend Central is a very good Football Team, but so is Fremont Bergan.
Stanton definitely has their work cut out for them against the Knights.
But the Mustangs are at home and need to feel optimistic about their chances.
Stanton can definitely do well and win, but it's going to take an incredible game on the Mustangs' part.
Stanton has to come out and play great Football from start to finish, and take the fight to Bergan for four quarters.
The Mustangs have to be the better conditioned team and the last man standing in the 4th quarter.
If they are, they could very well win.
