Guardian Angels Central Catholic comes from behind to beat High Plains Community
The Guardian Angels Central Catholic Bluejays received a scare against High Plains Community at home on Saturday, but came back to win 34-30.
GACC was down 14-0 at the end of one, 17-0 at halftime, and 30-6 at the end of three. The Bluejays scored 28 fourth quarter points and held the Storm scoreless to win the game.
Nolan Plagge was 8-19 passing for 167 yards and three touchdowns. Tanner Ortmeier hauled in four passes for 122 yards and scored twice.
Tanner Hass had 114 yards rushing on 16 carries, and scored once. Plagge ran for 48 yards on 11 attempts, and scored once.
Ortmeier and Plagge made 12 tackles apiece for GACC. Andrew Guenther totaled 9 while Luke Gnad recorded 8. Tanner Hass and Brandon Hass totaled 7 apiece.
The Bluejays racked up 357 yards of total offense, including 190 on the ground. The defense surrendered 289 yards of total offense, 158 coming on the ground.
GACC was fortunate to win. It appears the Bluejays didn't play well the first three quarters.
The game was on a Saturday, I understand that, and it's not always easy to get up for a Saturday game, especially during Husker football, but the rest of GACC's games are on Fridays, so the Bluejays have zero excuses the rest of the season.
GACC (1-0) is at Omaha Christian Academy (0-2) on Friday.
Omaha Christian Academy lost 80-42 at Scribner-Snyder in their opener, and 60-58 at home to Omaha Nation last week.
This is a game the Bluejays should win rather easily, but if GACC isn't ready to play, the Eagles could make things interesting.
I fully expect the Bluejays to be focused and win big, but GACC has to play a complete, four quarter game.
The Bluejays have to dominate from start to finish like a state title contender would.
GACC has to have good balance offensively like they did against High Plains Community.
The defense has to be better stopping the run and the pass. The Bluejays have to raise their level of play on both sides of the ball.
GACC has to start fast, and put Omaha Christian Academy away early.
The game is more of a challenge with it being on the road rather than home, but that shouldn't stop the Bluejays.
As long as GACC is focused and ready to play, they should win.
The Bluejays have to play well from here on out. There can't be anymore quarters like the first three against High Plains Community.
