Howells-Dodge wins at Bloomfield
The Howells-Dodge Jaguars played a complete game on Saturday at Bloomfield, winning 30-8.
Jordon Brichacek scampered 15 yards to the end zone in the first quarter to give Howells-Dodge an 8-0 lead, an advantage they held at the end of the first quarter.
The Jaguars struck again in the second quarter as Tyler Polacek connected with Zach Bayer on a 42-yard touchdown pass to put Howells-Dodge up 16-0, a lead they held at the half.
The Jaguars struck again in the third as Polacek hit Luke Renter on a 34-yard pass to put Howells-Dodge up 24-0.
Renter ran one in from 4 yards out in the fourth quarter for the game's final score.
Polacek was 6-7 passing for 135 yards and two touchdowns. Renter hauled in two passes for 62 yards with a score while Bayer made two receptions for 54 yards, and also scored once.
Brichacek led the way in rushing with 80 yards on 17 carries, including a score. Polacek rushed for 46 yards on 14 attempts.
Polacek had a game-high 13 tackles while Mitchell Prusa racked up 12. Brichacek, Renter, and Bayer made 9 tackles apiece.
The Jaguars amassed 272 yards of total offense, including 137 on the ground. The defense gave up 177 yards of total offense, 157 coming on the ground.
Howells-Dodge came to play on Saturday. The Jaguars played a complete game on both sides of the ball. It wasn't all Polacek this week. Other players stepped up and helped out. Polacek spread the wealth to his receivers. It was a great all around performance from Howells-Dodge.
The Jaguars (2-0) are at Guardian Angels Central Catholic (2-0) Friday night.
The Bluejays defeated Omaha Christian Academy 68-14 last time out, and much like Howells-Dodge, appear to have figured things out after the first game of the season.
This is a gigantic clash between two great teams. GACC got the better of the Jaguars last year, but you can bet Howells-Dodge will be out for revenge.
The Jaguars have to play the way they did against Bloomfield, and perhaps even better, if they want to knock off a powerhouse like the Bluejays.
GACC is the real deal this year, but so is Howells-Dodge. This should be a very close game between two great teams.
This game could very well come down to the fourth quarter. It will be interesting to see if the Jaguars can get the job done.
Howells-Dodge has two very difficult games in a row with Clarkson/Leigh next week so it's important for the Jaguars to step up their game even more than they did against Bloomfield these next couple of weeks.
Howells-Dodge played an excellent game against the Bees, but it's going to take even better performances to knock off the Bluejays and Patriots.
The Jaguars have to be focused, psyched, jacked, and fired up for Friday night's game. This is Howells-Dodge's chance to make a statement to the rest of the state.
I think the Jaguars are a legit team this year, but we will find out just how good Howells-Dodge is come Friday night. I think this game is a good measuring stick for the Jaguars.
