Wisner-Pilger falls at Lutheran High Northeast
The Wisner-Pilger Gators came up short on the road at Lutheran High Northeast Friday night, falling 44-30.
Both teams scored 8 first quarter points. The Eagles notched 6 second quarter points and held Wisner-Pilger scoreless to go up 14-8 at halftime.
LHNE doubled up the Gators 16-8 in the third quarter to lead 30-16 at the end of three.
Both teams scored 14 fourth quarter points.
Cooper Vonseggern was 13-23 passing with 165 yards and three touchdowns and two interceptions.
Korrell Koehlmoos caught 6 balls for 85 yards, and scored three times. Hunter Waterman hauled in three passes for 64 yards, and scored once.
Vonseggern rushed for 48 yards on 21 carries.
Lucas Troyer made a team-high 15 tackles. Cobe Porter had 14 while Nathan Hatterman and Travis Keyes totaled 13 apiece. Jayden Raabe recorded 12, and Waterman notched 8.
Wisner-Pilger totaled 263 yards of offense, including 187 through the air.
The Gators played well offensively Friday night, and executed. It was just Wisner-Pilger's defense that let them down, unlike Week 0.
The Gators (1-1) have another tough game at Battle Creek (2-0) Friday night.
The Braves downed Stanton 19-6 at home in their opener, and won 41-12 at Oakland-Craig last week.
Wisner-Pilger has their work cut out for them, there's no doubt about that.
The Gators have to come ready to play, and can't be scared of Battle Creek.
Wisner-Pilger has to play lights out on both sides of the ball, and make the most of their opportunities.
The Gators have to force turnovers and take care of the ball, and score whenever they have the chance.
Wisner-Pilger has to play optimistic football, and believe they can get the job done.
The Braves had two really tough games to start the season so perhaps there will be a letdown against the Gators. I don't expect there to be as Wisner-Pilger is also a quality team, but you never know.
The Gators have to play with passion, heart, and desire. Wisner-Pilger has to be tough stopping the run, and has to win the battle at the line of scrimmage.
The Gators have to focus on winning quarters. If Wisner-Pilger can win every quarter, they will win the game.
It's going to be very difficult, but if the Gators play a four quarter game you never know, they might be able to win.
I feel like Battle Creek is a step up from Lutheran High Northeast so Wisner-Pilger has to take what they learned from the loss to the Eagles and apply it against the Braves.
