West Point-Beemer loses at North Bend Central
The West Point-Beemer Cadets suffered a tough defeat at the hands of North Bend Central Friday night as they lost 28-25 on the road.
Tate Toelle led West Point-Beemer in passing as he was 5-11 for 140 yards with two touchdowns and an interception.
Benjamin Jahnke was the team's leading receiver with 120 yards on 3 catches, including two scores.
Hunter Pilakowski was the Cadets' leading rusher with 67 yards on 9 carries. Dylan James ran for 50 yards on 6 attempts.
West Point-Beemer finished with 289 yards of total offense, including 149 on the ground.
The loss had to be rather disappointing for the Cadets, especially considering the fact they were up 19-0 and the Tigers hadn't won a game since 2013.
There's really not a lot of time to reflect on the loss though as West Point-Beemer (1-1) gets ready to take on Wahoo (1-1) on the road Friday night.
The Warriors defeated Ashland-Greenwood 45-42 in overtime on the road in their opener before losing 38-10 at home to Norfolk Catholic Friday night.
Wahoo is a quality team, and certainly won't be easy for the Cadets to beat, but West Point-Beemer has to come ready to play.
The Cadets have to put the North Bend Central loss in the rearview mirror and regather themselves for this week.
Toelle has to have a big game at quarterback, and Jahnke has to have another big game receiving.
West Point-Beemer has to get their run game going too. The Cadets had a decent amount of success running the ball against the Tigers, but didn't have someone take over the game.
West Point-Beemer needs someone to step up and go over 100 yards if they want to knock off the Warriors. Perhaps Pilakowski or James could do it, but one way or another the Cadets need to get someone over the century mark.
That involves the offensive line manning up and blocking well. West Point-Beemer has to be tough up front, and has to win the battle in the trenches if they want to win the game.
The Cadets have their work cut out for them, but a win is definitely possible. If West Point-Beemer plays like they did against Fort Calhoun, and not North Bend Central, things could be close.
The Cadets have to raise their level of play though. The way West Point-Beemer lost to the Tigers is not going to cut it.
