Tekamah-Herman loses at home to Oakland-Craig
The Tekamah-Herman Tigers, decimated by injury, lost 61-12 at home to Oakland-Craig Friday night.
Tekamah-Herman fell behind by two scores in the first 1:02 of the game.
The Knights led 41-0 at the end of the first quarter and 53-6 at halftime.
Tekamah-Herman scored 6 third quarter points to make it a 53-12 game at the end of three.
Oakland-Craig scored their final points of the game in the fourth quarter.
Head Coach Graig McElmuray says injuries have limited what his team can do. "Our young kids are really showing a lot of heart and playing really well. Unfortunately, they're just not ready for varsity competition. That's on us as coaches, and that's on them to get themselves ready. But we really do have a lot of injuries right now. We figured out 19 out of 23 starting positions aren't out on the field for us. And that changes your season, that changes how you coach, that changes what you call, and really trying to fight hard to fix ourselves, and give good games to these guys."
It was definitely a tough night and a tough loss for the Tigers. Tekamah-Herman gave it their all, but injuries have really limited what this team can do.
The Tigers (0-3) are at Stanton (2-1) Friday night.
The Mustangs defeated Twin River 28-20 at home this past Friday night.
Stanton wasn't overly impressive against the Titans, but did enough to win.
Tekamah-Herman is going to have a very difficult time with Stanton, especially given their injury situation.
The Tigers have to grow up in a hurry and continue to play hard though.
These young kids stepping in have to step up and continue to gain varsity experience.
It will be very difficult for Tekamah-Herman to compete with the Mustangs, let alone win, but anything can happen.
The Tigers have to rally behind who's seeing the field, and keep things positive.
It's not going to be easy for Tekamah-Herman to win by any means, but the Tigers have to continue to fight and battle hard no matter what.
Tekamah-Herman can't give up and throw in the towel. There's a lot that can be gained and learned from this season, and the Tigers have to keep improving each week.
Tekamah-Herman is in a tough situation. Teams don't often have injury situations like this. This is sort of unheard of for high school football. I don't know if I've ever heard of a team with more starters out than the Tigers have.
We will see what Tekamah-Herman can put together Friday night.
