West Point-Beemer loses at home to Arlington
The West Point-Beemer Cadets lost 32-14 at home to Arlington on Homecoming Friday night.
After both teams were held scoreless in the first quarter, the Eagles scored 14 second quarter points to lead 14-0 at the break.
West Point-Beemer won the third quarter 7-6 to make it a 20-7 game at the end of three.
Arlington outscored the Cadets 12-7 in the fourth quarter.
Tate Toelle had 115 yards rushing on 21 carries, including one touchdown.
Toelle was 5-12 passing for 96 yards with an interception. Ben Jahnke hauled in two passes for 63 yards.
Dylan James totaled 8 tackles to lead West Point-Beemer.
The Cadets racked up 260 yards of offense, including 158 on the ground.
The defense surrendered 432 yards of offense, 256 coming on the ground.
This was definitely a disappointing loss for West Point-Beemer. I'm sure the Cadets feel they could have played a much better game.
West Point-Beemer (1-3) is at Boone Central/Newman Grove (3-1) Friday night.
The Cardinals won 42-0 at Grand Island Central Catholic last time out.
Boone Central/Newman Grove is a pretty good team again this year. I don't think the Cardinals are as good as last year's state championship team, but Boone Central/Newman Grove is still tough.
It's going to take a tremendous effort on the part of the Cadets for West Point-Beemer to win.
The Cadets have to play much better than they did against Arlington.
West Point-Beemer probably doesn't have a lot of confidence heading into this game, but the Cadets have to generate their own energy and enthusiasm for this ball game.
West Point-Beemer has to release the beast from within, and play tough, physical, smashmouth football for four quarters.
The Cadets can say all they want about being in a tough district, but to be the best you have to beat the best. And it's going to take a lot of hard work, determination, toughness, and grit on the part of West Point-Beemer to compete with and ultimately beat Boone Central/Newman Grove.
It will be interesting to see what kind of response the Cadets have to the Arlington loss. West Point-Beemer can't let this season get away from them. The Cadets have to keep fighting hard no matter what happens.
West Point-Beemer can't let one loss lead to another. Unfortunately, that's kind of what has happened with the Cadets so far this season.
We will see if anything changes Friday night.

When will you be posting last weeks games and this weeks upcoming games?
ReplyDeleteHi John-
ReplyDeleteI started updating last week's games and this week's games on Tuesday. I anticipate having the rest done on Thursday. The Northeast Nebraska Volleyball Blog normally takes up quite a bit of time on Mondays so that's why I don't normally get to football until Tuesdays. I may try and change that some this coming week so I can get to football sooner. Thanks for your comment.
