Winnebago loses big at home to Wakefield
The Winnebago Indians lost 62-28 at home to Wakefield Friday night.
It had to be a rather disappointing first home game for Winnebago, who no doubt didn't play the way they are capable of. Week 1's success didn't carry over to last week.
It's a new week though, and the Indians are on the road again. Winnebago (1-1) is at Humphrey/Lindsay Holy Family (0-2) on Friday.
Humphrey/Lindsay Holy Family lost 52-28 to Elgin Public/Pope John in their first game of the season, and fell 28-26 to Clearwater/Orchard last week.
Humphrey/Lindsay Holy Family is a better team than their record indicates, in my opinion.
The Indians are going to have to play like they did in Week 1 to knock them off.
Winnebago didn't play up to their capabilities last week and that had to be disappointing no doubt, but the Indians won on the road in their opener, and are certainly capable of winning on the road again.
Winnebago has to be focused and ready to play smashmouth football from the start. The Indians can't afford to fall behind early, and dig themselves a deep hole.
Winnebago has to find a way to keep things close like they did against Cedar Bluffs. If the Indians can put together another four quarter game, and keep things close until the end, they could win.
Winnebago has a very tall task in front of them, but anything is possible. The Indians have to play with confidence and swagger, and must hit hard and tackle well.
A win would be good confidence heading into the Pender game. There are a lot of winnable games still on the schedule for Winnebago, and this is one of them. The Indians have to take advantage of the opportunity that's in front of them.
Winnebago has to play like they did in game one, not game two. If the Indians can have a repeat performance of the Cedar Bluffs game they should put themselves in a good position to win the game.
There's still a lot of football to be played if you are the Indians. Winnebago can't dwell on the Wakefield loss. The Indians have to move forward and put the loss in the rearview mirror.
