Lyons-Decatur Northeast loses to Osmond
The Lyons-Decatur Northeast Cougars dropped their second straight game last Friday night, losing 70-44 at home to Osmond.
Both teams scored 22 first quarter points. The Tigers won the second quarter 12-8 to lead 34-30 at halftime.
Osmond had a big third quarter, tripling up Lyons-Decatur Northeast 24-8 to go up 58-38 at the end of three.
The Tigers doubled up the Cougars 12-6 in the fourth quarter.
Montana Riecken led Lyons-Decatur Northeast in rushing with 190 yards on 28 carries, including three scores. Marcus Hegy rushed for 95 yards on 24 attempts, and scored twice.
Riecken was 4-7 passing for 97 yards with a touchdown and an interception. Jon Christiansen caught three passes for 81 yards, and scored once.
Bren Shatto made a team-high 10 tackles while Riecken, Hegy, and Christiansen made 9 apiece. Tyler Kroger registered 7.
The Cougars totaled 387 yards of offense, 290 coming on the ground.
The defense surrendered 604 yards of offense, including 484 rushing.
Lyons-Decatur Northeast's defense definitely let them down Friday night. The offense did enough to win, but the defense didn't do their job. Osmond's running game was unstoppable.
The Cougars (1-2) are at Bancroft-Rosalie (0-3) Friday night.
The Panthers lost 58-6 at Osmond Friday night.
Bancroft-Rosalie has really struggled offensively and defensively this year.
The Panthers lost quite a bit from last year, and seem to be struggling with who they have this year.
Lyons-Decatur Northeast had better be ready to go Friday night though.
The Cougars are on a two-game losing streak themselves, but won last year's game against a playoff qualifying Bancroft-Rosalie squad.
However, the Panthers are definitely capable of turning the tables this year and winning the game.
Plus it's the last time these two teams will ever meet barring a match up in the playoffs.
Lyons-Decatur Northeast definitely wants to win this game to have a chance at the playoffs and because it's the last scheduled meeting between these two programs.
Riecken and Hegy have to have big games rushing the ball for the Cougars, and Riecken has to have another solid day at the ballpark passing the ball.
Lyons-Decatur Northeast should win, but it's a rivalry game, it's in Bancroft, and it's the last ever scheduled meeting between these two teams so you never know what's going to happen.
Anything can happen, and that's why the Cougars have to be ready to get Bancroft-Rosalie's best shot.
The game will be aired on 107.9 the Bull. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. with pregame at 6:40.
