Lyons-Decatur Northeast beats Parkview Christian in shootout

The Lyons-Decatur Northeast Cougars kicked off their season in impressive fashion on Friday, winning 84-60 at Parkview Christian.

Lyons-Decatur Northeast got off to a strong start, going up 28-6 at the end of the first quarter.

The Cougars outscored the Patriots 28-20 in the second quarter to take a 56-26 lead into the locker room.

Parkview Christian won the third quarter 14-8 to make it a 64-40 game at the end of three.

Both teams scored 20 fourth quarter points.

Junior quarterback Montana Riecken had 304 yards rushing on 24 carries, including six touchdowns for Lyons-Decatur Northeast. Marcus Hegy toted the rock 15 times for 138 yards, and scored twice. Jon Christiansen rushed the ball 9 times for 97 yards, and scored once.

Riecken was 4-5 passing for 129 yards with two touchdowns.

Christiansen hauled in two passes for 102 yards, and scored twice.

Defensively, Bren Shatto led the way with 10 tackles. Hegy made 8.

The Cougars racked up 679 yards of total offense, including 550 on the ground while allowing 538 yards of total offense, 388 coming through the air.

This was a complete game performance on offense from Lyons-Decatur Northeast. The Cougars ran at will on the Patriots, and showed who the better team was on this day.

Lyons-Decatur Northeast (1-0) battles Humphrey St. Francis (0-0) at home Friday.

The Flyers won last year's game 70-14, and I'm sure Humphrey St. Francis will be a tough team again this year.

The Cougars definitely have to step things up on defense. We know what the offense is made up of, but if Lyons-Decatur Northeast wants to beat the Flyers they have to get things done on the defensive side of the ball.

This is going to be a very difficult game for the Cougars, but they have to believe.

Lyons-Decatur Northeast has to play with pride and a sense of purpose. The Cougars have to play hard and with heart, and leave it all out on the field.

Lyons-Decatur Northeast should be more competitive in this game than they were last year.

I think the Cougars are better equipped to play with a team like Humphrey St. Francis than they were a season ago.

I don't know if Lyons-Decatur Northeast will win, but the Cougars should make things closer than 70-14 I would imagine.

Riecken, Hegy, and Christiansen have to have big games again for Lyons-Decatur Northeast.

The Cougars need those three to perform the way they did against Parkview Christian.

It should be an intriguing ball game on Friday. Lyons-Decatur Northeast has to play inspired and let it all hang out and see what happens.
