Oakland-Craig falls to Battle Creek
The Oakland-Craig Knights hung with Battle Creek for a while at home Friday night, but the Braves proved to be too much, winning going away 41-12.
Battle Creek led 7-0 after the first quarter, and 14-6 at halftime.
The Braves exploded in the third quarter, scoring 20 points and limiting Oakland-Craig to 6 to lead 34-12 at the end of three.
Battle Creek added a score in the final quarter to put the finishing touches on the win.
Oakland-Craig Head Coach Joe Anderson says his squad hung in there early, but the Braves proved to be too much.
"It was one of those games where it was 14-6 at halftime, but kind of did the opposite to us. They have a bunch of kids on their sidelines over there. And big strong, physical kids. And probably wore us down a little bit, and things kind of got out of hand. But that was a very good football team. We learned some of the things that we got to work on, that's for sure, and we've been doing that this week."
The Knights gave the Braves a run for their money for a while. Oakland-Craig came ready to play, but I think Battle Creek simply wore the Knights out. The Braves showed why they are one of the top teams in Class C-2.
Oakland-Craig (1-1) is at Tekamah-Herman (0-2) Friday night.
Anderson says the Knights have worked on fixing themselves and not so much Tekamah-Herman, but they're still ready to go. "It's a local game. Kind of always been kind of a rivalry game between the two schools. So our kids are excited to get back out there. We haven't really focused on Tekamah as much mainly because we had so many things that we needed to fix. And we've really focused on us this week. And coming on back to some fundamentals, and worked a lot on our technique. And hopefully on Friday night we'll see that pay off."
Oakland-Craig won last year's game 36-12.
The Tigers lost 31-6 at Wisner-Pilger in the opener and 14-8 at home to Homer this past Friday night.
As you can see, Tekamah-Herman hasn't exactly had the easiest time scoring points.
The Tigers' young skill players have yet to settle in and step up for their team, or so it appears.
Given Tekamah-Herman's struggles I wouldn't be surprised if the Knights win big, and perhaps shutout the Tigers.
You know Oakland-Craig is going to be upset given what happened to them against Battle Creek so look for the Knights to take it out on Tekamah-Herman.
Oakland-Craig has a tough game at Crofton next week, but don't expect the Knights to overlook the Tigers.
I think Oakland-Craig knows they have to bring it week in and week out, and understands that anyone can beat anyone on any given night.
Tekamah-Herman is definitely capable of pulling an upset if they play out of their minds and the Knights have an off game so Oakland-Craig has to be ready to go from the get go.
The Knights need to take care of business early. The last thing Oakland-Craig wants is for the Tigers to hang around and believe. The longer the game is close, the better chance Tekamah-Herman has at winning.
That's why the Knights can't let this be a close ball game. Oakland-Craig has to roll from start to finish, and leave no doubt.
The game can be heard on 107.9 the Bull. Kickoff is set for 7:00 with pregame at 6:40.
