Emerson-Hubbard wins first game of year over Cedar Bluffs
The Emerson-Hubbard Football Team won 55-40 at Cedar Bluffs Friday night.
The Wildcats led 6-0 at the end of one and 32-14 at halftime.
The Pirates outscored Cedar Bluffs 22-8 in the 3rd quarter to make it a 40-36 game at the end of three.
Emerson-Hubbard blanked the Wildcats 19-0 in the 4th quarter to complete the comeback.
Nolan Belt had 253 yards rushing on 19 carries, and scored six touchdowns. He was 5-11 passing for 52 yards.
Hunter Schock, Ethan Eriksen, and Zach Shanks each had 15 tackles while Garrett Blanke made 13. Belt had 10 while Mason Hall racked up 9. Tyler Stark and Cameron Ahlers totaled 7 apiece.
The Pirates had 386 yards of total offense, including 324 on the ground.
It was simply the Nolan Belt show Friday night. He single handily carried the team to victory.
Emerson-Hubbard (1-3) travels to Mead (2-2) to take on the Raiders Friday night.
Mead won 62-12 at Omaha Christian Academy last week.
The Raiders have proven to be a solid team so far this year.
Mead figures to be tough, especially on their home field, but I'm hoping the second half comeback for the Pirates last week sparks something.
Perhaps last week's second half performance will carry over into this week.
Belt needs to have another monster game for Emerson-Hubbard to be able to win this one.
What impressed me more than just what Belt did though was the Pirates' second half defense in the win over Cedar Bluffs.
Emerson-Hubbard only gave up 8 second half points, and really dominated defensively outside of the second quarter.
Now the Pirates just need that shutdown D for four quarters.
Emerson-Hubbard has to be stout defensively, and has to wrap up and hit hard.
The Pirates have to be punishing defenders, and lay the wood on the Raiders.
Emerson-Hubbard has to make their presence known Friday night, and come out and smack Mead in the mouth.
The Pirates need to set the tone early and establish a physical, smashmouth style of play.
Emerson-Hubbard has to man up and create running lanes for Belt.
Belt has to be a punishing runner, and stiff arm guys and break tackles and make people miss.
The Pirates essentially need to be Gladiators, or Iron Men out there Friday night.
Emerson-Hubbard needs this one to keep pace in the District race.
Lose this one and it's going to be increasingly difficult to win the District.
The Pirates can definitely win this one, but Emerson-Hubbard has to go out there and make it happen and get the job done.
