Oakland-Craig blasts Yutan

The Oakland-Craig Football Team routed Yutan 66-7 on the road Friday night.

Jaron Meyer had 162 yards rushing on 7 carries, and scored two touchdowns. Coulter Thiele had a 60-yard rushing touchdown.

Colten Thomsen was 5-8 passing for 77 yards with 2 touchdowns and an interception.

Ian Lundquist had 7 tackles.

The Knights had 634 yards of total offense, including 517 on the ground.

Crazy and amazing numbers/stats/results for Oakland-Craig.

The Knights (8-0) take on BRLD (8-0) on the road Friday night for the District Title.

The Wolverines used a goal line stand on 4th and goal to defeat Fremont Bergan 42-36 in overtime on the road last week.

Head Coach Joe Anderson talks about the keys to beating a dynamic team like the Wolverines. "Our kids are looking forward to a very hard fought game. BRLD is a great football team, that has a ton of talent. They have a bunch of weapons, so they can attack you in so many different ways. We are going to have to be very sound in our assignments and techniques for us to get a win."

The Wolverines are led by star Quarterback Will Gatzemeyer, who has over 1700 yards passing and 1200 rushing for the season.

Anderson says Gatzemeyer is really difficult to defend. "Will is one of the top QB's in the state. He has always been a great athlete that is almost impossible to tackle in space, but now he is an elite passer as well. He runs their system very well, so we have to find a way to limit their big plays."

Anderson adds this game will serve as a great playoff prep game. "Winning a district title is one of the goals our group set this year. IF you win your district in this area, you know you have put yourself in a great position for the playoffs.  However, it is not their ultimate goal for the season. This game comes at a great time. It is the kind of game that will get you ready for playoff football, win or lose. There will be a great crowd and a playoff type atmosphere."

You have to wonder if these two teams will meet in the playoffs as well.

The Knights are averaging 55 points a game offensively. Anderson says it's been more than one player who has contributed to Oakland-Craig's dynamic offense this season. "The best part of our offense is that we are very multiple. We have 4 or 5 guys that carry the football and can attack you in different ways. Jaron has really stepped up for us lately and has been our homerun threat.  Coulter Thiele and Ian Lundquist have also had big games for us. Colten Thomsen has done a great job of running our offense. He has really been throwing the ball well."

Oakland-Craig has obliterated pretty much everyone they've played this year. Anderson says his team's preparation is to credit for that. "Our guys do a great job of preparing each week. They have done a good job of taking this season one game at a time, and have really come out and executed the game plan each week. We have gotten off to some very fast starts, which allowed us to put the game away early."

If the Knights get off to the same type of start they have since the Crofton game I think they will win.

However, if the game is close at the end then I feel the Wolverines could win.

It will be very interesting to follow this one and see how things turn out.
