North Bend Central wins at Twin River
The North Bend Central Football Team went on the road and came away with a 41-12 win at Twin River Friday night in action that was aired on 107.9 the Bull.
Here is Head Coach Ryan Stieren:
They scored first, which put us behind for the first time this season, but we outscored them 20-6 in the 2nd quarter and 21-0 in the 2nd half. There were a couple pivotal plays that really helped us take control -- we scored on a 68 yard pass from Austin Endorf to Austin Taylor with about 40 seconds left in the first half. Then on Twin River's first possession of the 2nd half, they drove to their 23 yard line before Austin Taylor stripped the ball and Breckin Peters recovered and returned it 73 yards for a Touchdown.
Austin Endorf was 17-25 for 261 yards and 3 TDs. Austin Taylor caught 4 passes for 101 yards and a Touchdown. Ethan Mullally rushed 14 times for 76 yards and a Touchdown. Defensively, we were led by Breckin Peters and Gavin Peterson. Breckin had 5 tackles, 1 sack, 1 fumble recovery for a TD, and 1 interception. Gavin had 12 tackles and 1 interception.
The Tigers had 385 yards of total offense, including 272 passing.
The defense gave up 307 yards of total offense, 169 of them passing.
"This was one heck of a test for our team. Twin River was 3-1, they had a good plan and hit us in the mouth to begin the game. We were sluggish but once we got going, we did a lot of good things. I was really proud of how well our defense played and I was proud of how our kids responded when our back was against the wall." Stieren said.
The Tigers (5-0) battle Centennial (2-3) on the road Friday night.
The Broncos lost 35-0 at David City Aquinas last week.
Centennial beat North Bend Central 47-14 in the North Bend last year.
Of course the Broncos were undefeated state champs that year.
I don't feel Centennial is as good this year as they were last year, but the Broncos are still tough.
Don't let the Broncos' record fool you though....it is deceiving.
The 3 losses are to Battle Creek and Sutton by a combined 10 points and the aforementioned Monarchs.
Those three teams are a combined 14-1 on the season.
I don't see any reason why North Bend Central can't be one of those undefeated teams that beats Centennial though.
But still you know the Broncos will come out and play well with their backs against the wall.
The schedule and district is very tough for Centennial though so perhaps they will see the road is too difficult.
A win for the Tigers could very well lock up a playoff spot, but we will see.
North Bend Central appears to be the real deal this year.
Endorf is a stud, and I look for him to do well and perhaps pass all over the Broncos.
The Tigers need another standout and breakout performance from him and everyone else.
North Bend Central has to keep proving themselves and playing well.
There's a lot left to accomplish and a lot of big games yet on the horizon, and this is one of them.
The Tigers's sole and lone focus has to be on Centennial.
North Bend Central can't be looking ahead to Aquinas or Shelby/Rising City, as big as those games will be.
