Stanton loses at Battle Creek

The Stanton Football Team lost 54-7 at Battle Creek Friday night.

The Mustangs led 7-6 after one, and trailed just 14-7 at halftime, but the Braves shutout Stanton 27-0 in the 3rd quarter to blow the game open at 41-7 at the end of three.

Battle Creek won the 4th quarter 13-0.

Ben Wilke had 53 yards rushing on 10 carries.

Damien Erickson and Gage Tighe each made 8 tackles while Parker Krusemark had 7.

Stanton had 158 yards of total offense, including 155 rushing.

The defense gave up 335 yards of total offense, including 277 on the ground.

It has to be really frustrating for the Mustangs to hang right with the Braves for a half and then have things get away from them in the second half like they did.

Stanton (1-4) plays host to Crofton (0-5) Friday night.

The Warriors lost 21-20 at home to Norfolk Catholic last week.

Crofton may be 0-5, but they have lost to some really good teams.

The Mustangs have to feel as if they can get this one though.

Stanton lost to a then winless Crofton team on the road last year 20-19, and would no doubt like to get payback this year.

At the same time, the Warriors will come in very hungry and anxious to pick up their first win of the season.

The Mustangs have to play the way they did in the first half against Battle Creek.

If Stanton plays like that for four quarters then good things will happen.

But that's the key....doing it for four quarters.

The Mustangs have to play a complete four quarter game against Crofton to come away with the win.

It can definitely happen too, but Stanton has to run the ball well and stop the run also.

These next two games are essentially the season for the Mustangs.

Stanton faces Ponca next week so the Mustangs need to make hay against a couple of winless teams.

Stanton can find themselves right in the thick of things for the district race if they can win these next two, but lose and there's really no shot.

The Mustangs have to pretty much win out to have a shot at winning the district and making the playoffs.

It's basically do or die time for Stanton at this point, and the Mustangs have to come out and play well.

Stanton can definitely do anything they put their minds to, but the Mustangs need great effort from all for 48 minutes.

If there's a quarter anything like the 3rd quarter against Battle Creek then it could spell doom for Stanton.
