Winnebago blown out at Homer
The Winnebago Football Team lost 82-22 at Homer Friday night.
The Indians led 16-8 after one before the Knights blanked Winnebago 12-0 in the 2nd quarter to take a 20-16 lead into the locker room.
Things got away from the Indians in the second half as Homer put up 39 third quarter points and led 59-16 at the end of three.
The Knights outscored Winnebago 23-6 in the 4th quarter.
The Indians gave up 320 yards of total offense, including 277 on the ground.
Tough pill for Winnebago to swallow against a rival having the game close at halftime and then having things unravel in the second half.
The Indians (0-4) host Wisner-Pilger (4-0) Friday night.
The Gators defeated GACC 34-14 at home last week.
Wisner-Pilger is a good team, but I don't think they're as explosive or dominant offensively as some of the teams Winnebago has faced.
The Gators play really good defense though and are a methodical offensive team.
Wisner-Pilger could very well put up a lot of points and stymie the Winnebago offense, but that remains to be seen.
Things could be interesting if the Indians play the way they did in the first half against the Knights for the entire game against the Gators.
Winnebago has to play with nothing to lose in this one.
The Indians have to come out and throw everything they've got at Wisner-Pilger.
Winnebago is ineligible for the playoffs so the Indians shouldn't feel any pressure whatsoever.
The Gators are the ones with a perfect season so far aiming for a District Title so Wisner-Pilger should feel all the pressure if anything.
Winnebago has to play loose and with reckless abandonment and must go out there and have a fun time.
The Indians have to enjoy and embrace these final four games of their season, and take it all in, especially the seniors.
For these seniors it is the second to last home game of the season.
One of the final times they will ever play a High School Football game on their home field.
Winnebago has to come out and play with a lot of pride, passion, attitude, mental and physical toughness, physicality, tenacity, fire, and grit.
The Indians have to play as if there's no tomorrow and as if this is their final game of the season.
Reason being the season will be over before we know it, and Winnebago has to make the most of what they have left this year.
The atmosphere has to be electric in Winnebago Friday night, and the crowd has to really get behind the team.
