North Bend Central suffers first defeat of season at Centennial

The North Bend Central Football Team lost their first game of the season Friday night, falling 40-25 at Centennial.

Head Coach Ryan Stieren has this recap:

The first half was an even back and forth match with us scoring a TD and 2 pt conversion on our first drive. And then they came back and scored twice before we hit a 30 yard field goal right before half as time expired. In the 2nd half, Centennial took control by scoring right out of the gate and ultimately outscoring us 27 to 14 in the 2nd half.

Offensively, Austin Endorf threw for 255 yards and 3 touchdowns. Breckin Peters caught 12 passes for 161 yards and 2 touchdowns. Ethan Mullally rushed 11 times for 66 yards. Defensively, Gavin Peterson had 10 tackles and 1 sack, while Cody Prohaska added an interception.

The Tigers had 273 yards of total offense, including 255 passing.

The defense gave up 322 yards of total offense, including 238 on the ground

Stieren says this was a difficult loss. "Ultimately, they controlled the line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball and in the game of football, that usually determines the winner of the contest. This is a disappointing effort because this was a great opportunity for us to work our way up to the upper echelon of Class C2 football but it didn't happen and now we get another opportunity this coming week when we face possibly the best team in C2 in Aquinas."

North Bend Central (5-1) hosts the Monarchs (5-1) Friday night.

Aquinas blanked David City 20-0 at home last week.

The Monarchs also shutout the Broncos 35-0 at home the week before.

To say the Tigers are going to need to play a much better game than they did against Centennial would be an understatement.

North Bend Central needs to play their best game of the year Friday night to have a chance to come out on top.

Aquinas is and has been a top dog for quite some time.

Beating them is never easy, and this year figures to be no exception.

But the Tigers get the Monarchs at home with an opportunity to make amends for last week.

North Bend Central's defense has to step up and rise to the challenge though.

The offense also needs to perform well, but it won't be easy given the nature of Aquinas's defense.

The Monarchs have pitched shutouts in their last two games and have given up single digits in two other games.

The Tigers are going to need to play great in this one to have a chance, but it can definitely happen.

North Bend Central has to step up and play their best game of the season Friday night.

The Tigers can't feel doomed just because they see those Gold Helmets with a Lion Logo and White and Black uniforms that say Aquinas on the back of them.

North Bend Central can't back down from the Monarchs whatsoever.

The Tigers have to get jacked and fired up and must be ready to fire off the ball and play a really physical, hard hitting football game.

North Bend Central has to step things up compared to last week, and play their best game of the season Friday night.

The Tigers can definitely do it too they just have to believe it can happen.

However, if they don't then it won't.
