Emerson-Hubbard beats Cedar Bluffs in shootout

It was more like a basketball game than a football game Friday night as Emerson-Hubbard defeated Cedar Bluffs 73-58 at home.

The Pirates led 16-6 after one, and outscored the Wildcats 25-8 in the 2nd quarter to take a 41-14 lead into the locker room.

Cedar Bluffs won the 3rd quarter 14-12 to make it a 53-28 game at the end of three.

The Wildcats notched 30 points in the 4th quarter while Emerson-Hubbard scored 20.

Nolan Ostrand had 252 yards rushing on 15 carries, including 3 touchdowns, while Spencer Burcham rushed for 166 yards on 27 attempts, and scored twice. Nolan Belt added 152 yards rushing on 16 attempts, finding the end zone 5 times.

Micah Lamprecht racked up 18 tackles while Jake Kneifl and Belt made 11 and 10, respectively.

The Pirates rolled up 568 yards of total offense, including 556 on the ground.

Outstanding performance running the ball by Emerson-Hubbard! Now all the Pirates need to do is get things figured out defensively.

Emerson-Hubbard (2-2) hosts Mead (2-2) Friday night.

The Raiders won 70-12 over Omaha Christian Academy last week.

This is a tough game to call because neither team has any common opponents and these two teams just haven't really played one another before.

There's a lot of questions and uncertainty going into this game if anything.

I think one thing is for sure though....the Pirates will look to run the ball well and give a great effort.

Mead has been up and down defensively while Emerson-Hubbard has given up a lot of points in their last couple of games.

If the Pirates can keep the offense up and get back to playing the kind of defense they were the first two games of the season then you have a winning recipe.

But if Emerson-Hubbard's offense is slowed down and the defense can't stop Mead then it could be a long night for the Pirates.

I fully expect this game to be close and competitive as I don't think either team will win by a landslide or anything like that.

I feel Emerson-Hubbard can win, especially being at home, but it's really tough to say for sure.

Sometimes it's not such a bad thing when an opponent doesn't know you all that well.

It works both ways in this matchup, but I don't think it hurts the Pirates by any means.

I think Emerson-Hubbard has to be optimistic and confident given the way they played offensively against Cedar Bluffs, but concerned with the way they played defensively in the second half.

It could be a situation where the Pirates pulled starters in the second half or something, but Emerson-Hubbard has to play a complete game on both sides of the ball if they want to come away with a win Friday night.

The Pirates can definitely win they just have to run the ball with the same type of authority they did for 4 quarters against the Wildcats, and must slow down the Raiders' offense.

I really think this game could come down to the final minutes.

I feel penalties and turnovers could very well tell the tale of the tape in this one.
