Stanton doubles up Tekamah-Herman
The Stanton Football Team doubled up Tekamah-Herman 28-14 at home Friday night.
The Mustangs led 6-0 at the end of one, and won the 2nd quarter 8-6 to take a 14-6 lead into the locker room.
Stanton blanked the Tigers 8-0 in the 3rd quarter to lead 22-6 after three.
Tekamah-Herman won the 4th quarter 8-6.
Marcus Spotanski was 4-8 passing for 122 yards and a touchdown. Kadyn Fernau ran the ball 10 times for 119 yards, and scored once. Cade Goger had 9 carries for 106 yards while Sutton Pohlman ran the ball 7 times for 62 yards, scoring once.
The Mustangs had 441 yards of total offense, 319 coming on the ground.
Stanton did a great job of racking up a bunch of yards, but needs to work on turning that yardage into more points.
The Mustangs (2-0) take on North Bend Central (2-0) on the road Friday night.
The Tigers knocked off Logan View/Scribner-Snyder 30-7 on the road last week.
The big thing for Stanton will be scoring points and slowing down Austin Endorf.
Endorf has a big arm for North Bend Central, and is the Tigers' main threat.
North Bend Central can also run the ball, but I think the Mustangs' best chance at success is to take one thing away and make the Tigers one dimensional.
If anyone is capable of beating a team that has shown as much promise and rise as North Bend Central it is Stanton.
The Mustangs have been around and done this thing for a while, and the Tigers are kind of the new kid on the block you could say.
I don't think Stanton is conceding that North Bend Central is going to win by any stretch of the imagination.
Based on the results of the first two weeks you would have to give the edge to the Tigers, especially with the game being in North Bend, but if the Mustangs can turn in an offensive performance like they did against David City, and punch the ball in the end zone, this one could be very interesting.
Tough game on the road, and you can bet the crowd will really be into it and electric, but Stanton is used to hostile environments I'm sure.
Teams like North Bend Central dream of beating teams like Stanton, and the Mustangs have to take that as a personal challenge.
The Tigers are building their program and turning things around, but you know Stanton would love to damper and spoil North Bend Central's party Friday night.
The Mustangs must have a good game plan and must execute it.
Stanton hasn't really impressed me a whole lot so far this year so we'll see if the Mustangs can step things up and pick up a big road win.
Stanton is a good, quality team, but I'm just not seeing what I saw from the Mustangs prior to last year.
It's as if Stanton is kind of in a lull, and is trying to break out of it.
We'll find out if the Mustangs can break out of their lull Friday night.
