Pender drops game at Randolph
It was a tough night for the Pender Football Team Friday night as the Pendragons lost 68-8 at Randolph.
The Cardinals led Pender 24-0 at the end of one, and shutout the Pendragons 28-0 in the 2nd quarter to take a 52-0 lead into the locker room.
Randolph outscored Pender 8-2 in the 3rd quarter to lead 60-2 at the end of three.
The Cardinals won the 4th quarter 8-6.
Austin Roth was 5-9 passing for 61 yards with an interception while Jaydon Jump ran the ball 15 times for 63 yards.
Jump led the team with 12 tackles.
Pender had just 156 yards of total offense, 84 coming on the ground.
Not how the Pendragons drew it up that's for sure. Tough loss for Pender indeed.
The Pendragons (1-2) host Clarkson/Leigh (1-2) Friday night in High School Football on 107.9 the Bull.
Clarkson/Leigh won 58-38 at home over Parkview Christian last week.
Clarkson/Leigh's two losses are to Howells-Dodge and Humphrey St. Francis so you know the Patriots are a good team.
I would say the Jaguars and Flyers are better than Randolph.
Pender definitely has another challenge on their hands this week, but I look for the Pendragons to step up and make things competitive.
I think Jump and Sam Mailoux will have nice games running and catching the ball, respectively.
Pender needs good QB play, and they've gotten solid play from Trimble and Roth so far this season.
The Pendragons need to have a scoring explosion like they did against Homer.
Pender's defense is what needs the most work though.
The Pendragons have to step up and stop the run, and defend the passing game well as well.
Clarkson/Leigh had 367 yards rushing against Parkview Christian so I don't think it's any secret what they will try and do against Pender.
The Pendragons have to be tough up front and must get physical.
Pender has to step up their game and raise their level of play, and play better than they have in their two losses.
The Pendragons played well offensively against the Knights, now if Pender can play like that again Friday night and iron things out defensively they could win.
The Patriots are a good and tough team though so the Pendragons have a definite challenge on their hands that's for sure.
Pender can win, in my opinion, but it's going to take a great game on the Pendragons' part for them to come away with a victory.
Pender has to get their hands on Tommy McEvoy, who ran for 273 yards and 6 touchdowns against Parkview Christian last week.
Kickoff is set for 7:00 p.m. with pregame at 6:30 p.m. on the Bull.
