Pender loses at home to Clarkson/Leigh
The Pender Football Team gave it their best shot Friday night, but wound up losing 68-14 at home to Clarkson/Leigh in action aired on 107.9 the Bull.
The Patriots led 26-0 at the end of one and won the 2nd quarter 12-8 to take a 38-8 lead into the locker room.
Clarkson/Leigh shutout the Pendragons 16-0 in the 3rd quarter to go up 54-8 at the end of three.
The Patriots won the 4th quarter 14-6.
Austin Roth was 4-15 passing for 54 yards with an interception.
Jaydon Jump made 12 tackles.
Pender had 129 yards of total offense, including 68 rushing.
The defense gave up 460 yards of total offense, 443 coming on the ground.
The Pendragons had no answer for Tommy McEvoy simply put.
Pender (1-3) takes on Cedar Bluffs (1-3) on the road Friday night.
The Wildcats lost 73-58 at Emerson-Hubbard last week.
This is definitely a winnable game for the Pendragons.
I think Pender ought to look to run the ball at Cedar Bluffs with Jump, Dylan Vogt, Roth, and Caleb Trimble, and also get Sam Mailoux involved in the passing game.
I'm willing to bet no one for the Wildcats will have an answer for or be able to slow down Mailoux in the passing game.
Mailoux is a matchup nightmare for anyone the Pendragons play, and Pender has to utilize him as much as possible.
I'm not concerned about Pender scoring points in this game, I'm just unsure if the Pendragons are going to be able to slow down the Wildcats.
Cedar Bluffs was held to 14 first half points against the Pirates, and has been held to 6 points in two different games this season though.
I think Pender can step up defensively against the Wildcats.
This is a game the Pendragons should win and a team Pender should beat.
The Pendragons have too many weapons and too much skill and talent to lose this one.
Pender has to play with some fire and passion, and come out and play like they mean it.
I don't think the Wildcats have anyone nearly as talented as McEvoy so the Pendragons may be able to focus on more than one player.
Pender has to be tough up front and in the middle.
The Pendragons have to clog running plays and not give up the big play.
This game could be an all out shootout, and if that's the case I like Pender to win.
I think the Pendragons will find a way to get the job done, but the defense has to step up and perform well.
Pender's offense also has to get back on track after being shutdown by a solid Clarkson/Leigh squad.
