Pender loses season opener to Winnebago
The Pender Football Team lost 50-14 at home to Winnebago in the season opener on Friday, August 24th.
Winnebago led 12-0 at the end of the 1st quarter, and outscored the Pendragons 14-6 in the second quarter to take a 26-6 lead into the locker room.
The Indians blanked Pender 18-0 in the 3rd quarter to get out to a 44-6 lead at the end of three.
The Pendragons won the 4th quarter 8-6.
Caleb Trimble was 10-15 passing for 78 yards with a touchdown for Pender while Jaydon Jump totaled 68 yards rushing on 8 carries.
Jump notched 12 tackles while Sam Mailoux recorded 8.
The Pendragons racked up 210 yards of total offense, including 132 on the ground.
Definitely a tough start to the season for Pender. Not the result the Pendragons were hoping for that's for sure.
Pender (0-1) takes on Homer (0-1) on the road Friday night.
The Knights lost 57-26 at Emerson-Hubbard on Friday, August 24th.
Both teams have had a week off so there should be no real advantage for either team from that aspect of things.
The Pendragons are a former D-1 school and Homer was once 11-man so advantage Knights.
Pender is simply young, and Jump and Mailoux are a very big part of the team.
Trimble completed a lot of big and nice passes against the Indians, but not for a lot of yardage.
Mailoux has to step up offensively and have a big game for the Pendragons.
Pender needs a breakout game from everyone.
I give Homer the edge in this with them being at home, but things could go either way.
It should be a good, close entertaining ball game, and the Pendragons are certainly capable of winning.
Pender has to give it their all for 4 quarters, and leave it all out on the field.
The Pendragons have to play their tails off for the entire 48 minutes, and can't let up no matter the score and situation.
Pender has to work hard in practice this week, and be ready to bring the lunch pail Friday night.
The Pendragons have to get ready to light some people up, and play big time football.
Pender has to be flat out upset by how they lost last Friday, and must do something about it.
The Pendragons are better than what they showed, in my opinion, and figure to go out there and do better this time around.
Winnebago is a solid ball club, but I don't think the game against the Indians was Pender's best performance.
The good news is this is a new week, and another opportunity for the Pendragons to go out there and shine.
Pender has to make the most of the opportunity against Homer, and go out there and seize the moment.
