Stanton falls at North Bend Central
The Stanton Football Team lost 37-13 at North Bend Central Friday night.
The Tigers led 10-0 after one and 17-7 at halftime after the two teams traded 2nd quarter touchdowns. Both teams scored 6 points in the 3rd quarter to make it a 23-13 game at the end of three. North Bend Central blanked Stanton 14-0 in the 4th quarter.
Kadyn Fernau ran the ball 13 times for 133 yards and a touchdown. Sutton Pohlman added 67 yards on 13 carries. Marcus Spotanski was 6-14 passing for 77 yards with an interception. Pohlman hauled in 5 passes for 67 yards.
Pohlman made a team-high 9 tackles.
The Mustangs had 305 yards of total offense, 228 coming on the ground.
Stanton's defense surrendered 355 yards of total offense, including 189 through the air.
I thought the Mustangs did a nice job of competing through 3 quarters. They just ran out of gas in the 4th quarter it appears.
Stanton (2-1) takes on Fremont Bergan (2-1) on the road Friday night.
The Knights lost 38-14 at Wilber-Clatonia this past Friday night.
This should be a very good game between the Mustangs and Bergan.
I feel both teams are pretty equal.
I think the Knights might win being they are at home and have beaten better teams, but anything can happen and you never know, Stanton could win.
The Mustangs just have to play a complete game and put up some points.
Scoring 13 points isn't going to win a ton of ball games.
Stanton's scoring output has been less as each week has passed through the first 3 weeks of the season.
The Mustangs have to pick things up offensively, and turn on the jets and find the end zone more often.
Stanton doesn't have any problem racking up yardage, the Mustangs just need to be able to punch the ball in the end zone.
Stanton has to stick the pigskin in the end zone more frequently, and come away with more points than they did Friday night.
North Bend Central is a mighty fine team this year, and Bergan is good as well.
The Mustangs' defense also has to be on point, and must force turnovers to set the offense up with short fields.
Stanton has to get better efforts on both sides of the ball to come away with a win Friday night.
It can definitely happen, but the Mustangs need to step things up.
Stanton has to wake up energized and energetic Friday morning, and must have a good week of practice up until then.
Doing conditioning drills and running this week will be important for the Mustangs' physical shape, especially in the 4th quarter.
Stanton has to be the best conditioned team out there, and that has to include the 4th quarter of ball games.
I'm not saying the Mustangs weren't well conditioned in the 4th quarter of last week's game, but Stanton didn't come through in the final stanza against the Tigers.
