The Jaguars went up 20-8 at the end of one before the Bluejays blanked Howells-Dodge 12-0 in the 2nd quarter to tie the game up at 20 at halftime.
GACC shutout the Jaguars 6-0 in the 3rd quarter go lead 26-20 at the end of three.
Howells-Dodge won the 4th quarter 8-6.
Minnick rushed for 146 yards on 24 carries, and scored two touchdowns. Steffen toted the rock 13 times for 85 yards and was 4-8 passing for 70 yards with two touchdowns and an interception. Smeal brought in 4 passes for 88 yards, and scored once.
Mitchell Peatrowsky made 15 tackles while Casey Doernemann racked up 13. Smeal made 12 while Minnick and Cash Meier had 9 apiece. Noah Hass notched 8 tackles while Steffen and Damon Crawford totaled 7 each.
The Bluejays had 340 yards of total offense, including 245 rushing, while giving up 342 yards of offense to the Jaguars, who had 289 yards on the ground.
GACC (2-0) hosts Omaha Brownell Talbot (1-1) Friday night.
The Raiders lost 40-36 at home to Cedar Bluffs last Friday night.
The Bluejays shouldn't have much trouble in this one I wouldn't think.
This is one of those games where GACC needs to build a big lead, rest starters, and get everyone in.
The Bluejays can't let up just because the opponent isn't as tough as the first two on paper though.
Knowing GACC and how good and well coached they are though I don't see that happening.
I look for Minnick to run wild on Brownell Talbot, and for Steffen to have a nice game as well.
Steffen compliments Minnick nicely in the run game, and has a good arm as well.
Smeal has been stepping up in the receiving game, and Doernemann is as good as they come up front.
The stars are aligning for the Bluejays so far, and GACC has to keep things going Friday night.
The Bluejays have a long ways to go, but can do themselves a favor by putting up another 60+ point performance on the Raiders.
I don't see an emotional letdown being an issue for GACC.
I think the Bluejays will be focused, ready to go, and ready to take care of business Friday night.
GACC also can't get caught looking ahead to Wisner-Pilger, but hopefully that won't be an issue.
The Bluejays will have quite a while to think about the Gators after this week's game so the focus has to solely be on Brownell Talbot.
GACC passed their first two tests of the season, and so I look for the Bluejays to get the job done again this week, and set up the showdown with Wisner-Pilger on September 21st.
This is one of those games where you want to get the starters a good amount of playing time to stay sharp, but you don't want a situation where you have to leave them in for all four quarters with the game being close.
You expect to blow out teams like the Raiders, and get the backups and young kids some valuable playing time.
It's all a part of building your program for future years in addition to the current season so GACC needs to get the backups some live game reps in this one if they can.
