Oakland-Craig downs Wisner-Pilger to end regular season

The Oakland-Craig Knights capped off their regular season Friday night with a 54-12 home win over Wisner-Pilger.

The Knights went up 20-0 at the end of one and outscored the Gators 20-6 in the second quarter to lead 40-6 at halftime.

Neither team scored in the third quarter. Oakland-Craig won the fourth quarter 14-6.

Hos Smith carried the ball 27 times for 208 yards, and scored four times. Cole Mitchell had 53 yards on 8 carries.

Mitchell was 9-17 passing for 190 yards with two touchdowns.

Cody Mace hauled in five passes for 138 yards, and scored once.

Tommy Nelson made a team-high 10 tackles.

The Knights racked up 498 yards of offense, including 308 rushing.

The defense surrendered 246 yards, 181 coming on the ground.

It was a great game on Oakland-Craig's part. I thought the Knights might be in for a dog fight, but they proved me very wrong.

Oakland-Craig is making their 8th straight playoff appearance and will be taking on Omaha Brownell-Talbot at home in the first round of the playoffs Friday night. Head Coach Joe Anderson says the regular season was a success.

"We were able to accomplish our goal of winning the district championship. That was one of our goals coming into the year. We knew if we won our district then you'd have that automatic qualifying for the playoffs. So we're happy with being 8-1. We knew early in the season Battle Creek was going to be a big test for us. Probably especially since we were so inexperienced early in the year."

The Knights' only regular season loss was to the Braves.

Omaha Brownell-Talbot comes in with a record of 6-3. Anderson says the Raiders are a tough team despite the fact they lost three out of their last four to end the regular season.

"They lost to some pretty good football teams. They lost to Yutan here down the stretch, and they lost to David City Aquinas, which everybody loses to them as of right now. So they're a physical team, they don't do anything super fancy. They got some skill guys. They can run. They got good team speed. I'm really impressed with how well they get to the ball."

I think the Raiders are a quality team, but I really like the way Oakland-Craig is playing right now. I look for the Knights to pull away and win by a few touchdowns.

The winner gets Gibbon or Bridgeport next Friday in the second round.

Friday night's game will be aired on 107.9 the Bull. Kickoff is set for 7:00 with pregame at 6:40.

Wisner-Pilger loses final game to Oakland-Craig

The Wisner-Pilger Gators lost 54-12 at Oakland-Craig Friday night in the team's final game of the season.

The Knights went up 20-0 at the end of one and outscored Wisner-Pilger 20-6 in the second quarter to lead 40-6 at halftime.

Neither team scored in the third quarter. Oakland-Craig won the fourth quarter 14-6.

Cooper Vonseggern had 165 yards rushing on 23 carries. Vonseggern was 4-22 passing for 65 yards with two touchdowns and three interceptions.

Kenny Baker had 15 tackles to lead all players. Cobe Porter made 13 while Vonseggern and Lucas Troyer notched 11 apiece. Jayden Raabe had 9 while Jake Denton and Nathan Hatterman totaled 8 each.

The Gators had 246 yards of total offense, including 181 on the ground.

The defense gave up 498 yards of offense, 308 of them rushing.

It wasn't an ideal finish to the season for Wisner-Pilger, but the Knights are a really good team, and proved it Friday night.

The Gators end the year at 3-6.

Wisner-Pilger was up and down this season.

The Gators played well at times, but not so well at others.

Wisner-Pilger says goodbye to Mason Rabe, Hubert Kuntzsch, Troyer, Baker, and Adrian Cardenas.

Five seniors isn't a lot to lose, but each and every one of these seniors brought something different to the table.

Vonseggern returns as does Hunter Waterman, Korrell Koehlmoos, Porter, Gage Riecken, Hatterman, Brody Mattson, Denton, Travis Keyes, and others.

These nine players and others have a chance to have special seasons next year.

As a matter of fact, I think the Gators have a chance to have a breakout season in 2016 and make the playoffs.

I thought Wisner-Pilger would do better this year than they did, and the potential to be better was certainly there, so I know this team is capable of doing big things.

The Gators must have a good offseason in the weight room and on the playing field.

It's important for the returning players and newcomers to get bigger, faster, stronger, and more physical, in addition to becoming better football players as a whole.

Stanton beats Laurel Concord-Coleridge by forfeit

Perhaps one of Class C-2's playoff snubs, the Stanton Mustangs won their final game over Laurel-Concord-Coleridge by forfeit.

It was a very good year for Stanton, who competed well with Battle Creek and beat everyone else on their schedule except for Oakland-Craig.

The Mustangs finished the year 7-2. I think Stanton is certainly better than a few of the teams who got into the playoffs.

It's a tough pill for the Mustangs to swallow. Stanton definitely deserved to be in the playoffs.

However, these seniors and this team went out winners, and in a lot of ways, that's better than losing your final game, even if it is in the playoffs.

The Mustangs graduate Kyle Sperl, Brook Klinetobe, Mitchael Sieh, Corbin Warnke, Grant King, Christian Stallbaum, Marques Matthies, Blake Huisman, and John White.

Each and every one of these nine seniors contributed in one way or another, and will be sorely missed.

Stanton's top returners for next year include Mason King, Hunter Stallbaum, Myles Nickolite, Trey Erbst, Alex Schellpeper, Logan McKeon, Ashton Flood, Dylan Hunt, Sam Christiansen, Parker Theisen, Gannon Tighe, and Henry Bohac.

For as much talent as the Mustangs lose, they return more.

I think the 2016 Stanton Mustangs will still be a good football team.

It will be interesting to see if Stanton can make the playoffs next year.

It's not often a team goes 7-2 and gets left out, but that's what happened to the Mustangs this year.

That has to motivate these players beyond belief to work their tails off in the offseason and comeback next year stronger than ever.

Tekamah-Herman loses regular season finale to Logan View

The Tekamah-Herman Tigers lost 60-6 at Logan View Friday night as their season came to a close.

It was an extremely difficult season for Tekamah-Herman, who got stung by the injury bug like none other.

The Tigers end the year 0-9.

Tekamah-Herman parts ways with Gus Langley, Bryan Peterson, Carter Walford, Brett Fleischman, Nick Bohannon, Matt Gross, Kolton Fleischman, and Caleb Wissman.

I'm not sure how much these eight seniors actually played this year, but either way they will be missed I am sure.

There's not a lot of positive things to take away from an 0-9 season, but Tekamah-Herman's younger players gained a lot of valuable varsity experience that will only benefit this team in the future.

It will be interesting to see how many of the same players actually start next years as I'm sure a good number of players will return from injury.

I think this team will be hungry and motivated to have a much better season next year than they did this year.

As long as they stay injury free, I think you will see the Tigers have a much better season in 2016 than they did in 2015.

It's hard saying how Tekamah-Herman will fare in 2016, but we will wait until next season to try and figure that out.

There's a long time between now and August, and the returning players and newcomers have a lot of time to reflect on the struggles of this season and do something about it.

Hard work in the weight room and on the playing field in the offseason will be critical to this team's success in 2016.

Logan View ends year with win over Tekamah-Herman

The Logan View Raiders ended their season with a resounding, 60-6 home win over Tekamah-Herman Friday night.

I'm sure Logan View wishes they could have made the playoffs, but not many teams go out winners, and that's exactly what the Raiders did by beating the Tigers Friday night.

Logan View ends the season 4-5.

The Raiders went through a four-game losing streak midseason, and had the first two games of that losing streak gone their way, Logan View very well could have been playoff bound. As it stands though the Raiders lost, and that's just how things go sometimes.

Logan View had a strong start to the season as they went 3-1 to begin the year, and the Raiders finished strong as well.

Logan View loses a number of seniors in Nathan Rock, Hunter Schlueter, Conner Gralheer, Garrett Knoell, Colin Vonseggern, James Hernandez, Nick Epperson, Zac Wanamaker, and Zach Heinke.

These 9 seniors will no doubt be missed, especially Knoell.

Replacing him will be very difficult, and I suspect there will be a quarterback competition next fall.

The Raiders bring back Andrew Poppe, Jacob Polk, Grant Meyer, Nolan Miller, Bailey Licht, Eric French, Brandon Hagerbaumer, Micheal Luther, and others.

There is quite a bit of talent returning for Logan View, and I think the Raiders have a chance to be good again next season.

This season was a success in many ways, and I'm sure the returning players will be hungry for more next season.

This season kind of feels like there is some unfinished business left for Logan View next season. I look for this team to have a chip on their shoulder throughout the offseason and into next year.

West Point-Beemer loses regular season finale to Wayne

The West Point-Beemer Cadets lost their final game Friday night, falling 27-14 at home to Wayne.

It was sort of a tough season for West Point-Beemer with some bright spots. The Cadets' win over Fort Calhoun was the highlight of the year no doubt.

West Point-Beemer ends the year at 2-7.

The Cadets graduate Blake Schroedter, Tate Toelle, Justin Eisenhauer, Ben Jahnke, Jonah Hughes, Tucker Luebbert, Chris Palm, Brayden Luebbert, Robert Kienbaum, Jacob Combs, and Edwin Ambrosio.

These 11 seniors will sorely be missed I am sure.

Toelle is a big loss as are Schroedter and Jahnke.

It will be interesting to see how good West Point-Beemer is next season.

The Cadets return the majority of their team, including Hunter Pilakowski, Tate Ernesti, Riley Berg, Evan Landholm, Gavin Case, and others.

It's going to take a lot of hard work in the offseason for this team to be better than they were this season.

The returning players and newcomers have to dedicate themselves to getting bigger, stronger, and faster while working on their on the field skills.

These kids should be out playing pick up football games on the practice field whenever they get the chance.

No one wants to get hurt playing football while participating in another sport, and out of respect to that other sport, like basketball, wrestling, or track...the kids should probably stay off the football practice field.

However, once summer rolls around, the kids who aren't playing baseball should be out enjoying themselves, playing football at every opportunity.

It takes a lot of hard work and dedication in the offseason to be a successful football team, but I know these kids have it in them to be a good team next season.

North Bend Central ends year with loss to Wahoo

The season came to a close for the North Bend Central Tigers Friday night as they lost 54-14 at home to Wahoo.

It wasn't an ideal end to the season for North Bend Central, but I think the Tigers can take pride in the fact they had a better season this year than last year.

North Bend Central ends the year at 1-8. The Tigers were more competitive in every game this year and put up more points than they did a season ago.

North Bend Central parts ways with seniors Chris Dostal, Jake Cleveringa, Colby Anderson, Lucas Moore, Nick Hines, and Ryan Kreikemeier.

These seniors will not be soon forgotten I am sure. Their contributions to Tiger football will be remembered for years to come I am willing to bet.

Six seniors isn't a whole lot to lose when you have 37 players on the roster. That means North Bend Central will return 31 players from this year's team.

The Tigers were young this year, but made a lot of strides throughout the season.

The win over West Point-Beemer was no doubt the highlight of the season, and North Bend Central came close to beating David City.

I think you will see an even more improved Tiger squad next season as long as everyone dedicates themselves to the weight room and the practice field in the offseason.

There is certainly a lot of room for growth and improvement on this team, and I look for North Bend Central to have a better 2016 than 2015.

This season wasn't a huge success, but improvement was made from last year and things were better for the Tigers this year.

I think the future looks bright for this program. With a lot of players returning North Bend Central could be poised to make some noise in 2016.

Guardian Angels Central Catholic defeats Omaha Nation by forfeit

The Guardian Angels Central Catholic Bluejays won by forfeit over Omaha Nation to end the regular season on Friday.

It wasn't the most ideal thing for GACC, but there honestly wasn't a whole lot to gain by playing the Chiefs. The good news for the Bluejays is they are heading into the playoffs at full strength as players were able to rest and avoid injuries by not playing Friday night.

GACC (8-0) hosts Mead (4-4) in the first round of the playoffs Thursday night.

The Raiders won 32-28 at Cedar Bluffs Friday night to close out the regular season.

You always worry about being sharp and in top form when having a week off, but I look for the Bluejays to roll Mead on Thursday.

The Raiders have been one of the feel good stories in Class D-1 this season, but I'm afraid their ride is about to end on Thursday.

I look for GACC to go out there and make a huge statement. The Bluejays' run at a state title starts Thursday, and GACC has to be amped, jacked, fired up, and prepared to dominate Mead on Thursday.

The Bluejays have to leave no doubt as to who the better team is.

If GACC wins, they get the winner of Nebraska City Lourdes and Bloomfield next Wednesday in the second round.

A quarterfinal matchup with BDS is very likely, but the Bluejays have to take things one game at a time, and focus on each opponent as they advance through the playoffs.

This is GACC's shot to win a state title. A chance to bring the hardware home and be remembered forever. The time to get the job done is now for the Bluejays.

Clarkson/Leigh topples Nebraska Christian

The Clarkson/Leigh Patriots toppled Nebraska Christian 50-26 at home Friday night to win the district title.

Clarkson/Leigh doubled up the Eagles 16-8 in the first quarter and got outscored 6-0 in the second quarter to make it a 16-14 game at halftime.

The Patriots won the third quarter 14-6 to go up 30-20 at the end of three.

Clarkson/Leigh outscored Nebraska Christian 20-6 in the fourth quarter.

Bradley Bunner had 167 yards rushing on 36 carries, including three touchdowns. Kobe Paprocki finished with 107 yards on 12 carries, including a score.

Paprocki was 2-5 passing for 70 yards with a touchdown and an interception. Bunner had 1 catch for 58 yards, which went for a touchdown.

Bunner made 19 tackles while Seth Thompson and Tyrell Pokorney had 14 and 13, respectively.

The Patriots racked up 344 yards of total offense, 274 coming on the ground.

The defense gave up 324 yards, including 171 rushing.

Clarkson/Leigh played a great game Friday night. The Patriots didn't finish the regular season 8-0, but 7-1 is the next best thing.

Clarkson/Leigh (7-1) battles Diller-Odell (6-2) in the first round of the playoffs Thursday evening.

The Griffin beat McCool Junction 45-6 in their regular season finale. Diller-Odell's two losses are to BDS and Nebraska City Lourdes.

I think the Patriots will win, but Paprocki and Bunner have to bring it for Clarkson/Leigh.

The Patriots will no doubt get the Griffin's best shot, and Clarkson/Leigh has to come ready to play.

The Patriots slipped up against Humphrey/Lindsay Holy Family in the regular season, and can't let that happen again.

Clarkson/Leigh has to come out and take care of business against Diller-Odell from start to finish.

A win likely means a date with Creighton in Creighton on Wednesday of next week.

The Patriots can't be looking ahead to a potential matchup with the Bulldogs though. Clarkson/Leigh has to be focused on beating the Griffin.

Looking ahead will only get this team in trouble. The only team on the Patriots' mind right now has to be Diller-Odell.

Kickoff is scheduled for 5:00 p.m. in Leigh.

Pender wins regular season finale at Wakefield

The Pender Pendragons struggled against Wakefield on Friday, but won 40-26 to cap off a 6-2 regular season.

The Trojans led 20-12 at halftime before Pender won the third quarter 14-6 to make it a 26-26 game at the end of three.

The Pendragons outscored Wakefield 14-0 in the fourth quarter.

Shay Messerlie finished with 128 yards on 23 carries, including a touchdown. Tyler Nelson carried the ball 6 times for 93 yards while James Bensen toted the rock 12 times for 88 yards, and scored twice.

Dylan Roth was 9-10 passing for 116 yards and a touchdown. Messerlie hauled in two passes for 63 yards, and was on the receiving end of Roth's touchdown pass.

Kolton Lehmkuhl and Devin Soll had 15 and 12 tackles, respectively, for Pender. Roth added 9 while Bensen and Leland Bowder recorded 8 each.

The Pendragons totaled 422 yards of offense, 306 coming on the ground.

It wasn't the prettiest game for Pender, but the Pendragons won, and that's all that matters.

Pender (6-2) travels to Neligh Thursday to take on Neligh-Oakdale (6-2) in the first round of the playoffs.

The Warriors lost their regular season finale to Clearwater/Orchard, falling 38-37.

I think the Pendragons have a good shot at winning on Thursday.

Neligh-Oakdale didn't beat a team that finished with a record above .500 in the regular season, and this is no doubt one of the Warriors' toughest tests of the season.

Pender's losses are better than Neligh Oakdale's.

With that said, the Pendragons lack playoff experience and the game is on the road.

That makes things more difficult for Pender, in my opinion.

I think the Pendragons are more than capable of making up for their disadvantages with good, physical play, but Pender has to be ready to bring it for four quarters.

Roth, Bensen, Messerlie, Soll, and others have to step up and play excellent football for Pender.

This game is out there for the Pendragons to go get, and a win would likely mean a second round home game against BDS. I'm sure that's a matchup Pender would welcome.

Kickoff is set for 7:00 p.m. in Neligh. The game can be heard on 107.9 the Bull with pregame at 6:40.

Howells-Dodge falls to Humphrey/Lindsay Holy Family

The Howells-Dodge Jaguars fell 24-20 at Humphrey/Lindsay Holy Family in their regular season finale Friday night.

The Bulldogs went up 8-0 at the end of one before Howells-Dodge shutout Humphrey/Lindsay Holy Family 14-0 in the second quarter to lead 14-8 at halftime.

The Bulldogs struck for 16 third quarter points and led 24-14 at the end of three.

The Jaguars added 6 fourth quarter points, but it was to no avail.

Here is the scoring summary for both teams:

First Quarter Summary

Humphrey-Lindsey Holy Family 00:29 #12 Duncan Hanzel pass complete to #8 Ashton Dohmen for 10 yards. (Two point conversion pass by #12 Duncan Hanzel to #8 Ashton Dohmen good)

Second Quarter Summary

Howells-Dodge 09:23 #10 Tyler Polacek pass complete to #25 Kade Hegemann for 45 yards. (Two point conversion run by #30 Luke Renter no good)
Howells-Dodge 04:00 #12 Duncan Hanzel pass intended for Team. Intercepted by #71 Mitchell Prusa 41 yard INT return. (Two point conversion run by #30 Luke Renter good)

Third Quarter Summary

Humphrey-Lindsey Holy Family 06:26 #21 Austin Priester runs for 1 yards. (Two point conversion run by #12 Duncan Hanzel good)
Humphrey-Lindsey Holy Family 03:52 #12 Duncan Hanzel runs for 2 yards. (Two point conversion run by #12 Duncan Hanzel good)

Fourth Quarter Summary

Howells-Dodge 09:16 #10 Tyler Polacek runs for 1 yards. (Two point conversion run by #30 Luke Renter no good)

Tyler Polacek was 5-9 passing for 97 yards with a touchdown.

Kade Hegemann hauled in 2 passes for 54 yards, and scored once.

Mitchell Brester made a team-high 9 tackles while Mitchell Prusa, Zach Bayer, and Ryan Macholan racked up 8 apiece. Hegemann totaled 7.

The Jaguars had 221 yards of total offense, 124 coming on the ground.

I was surprised Howells-Dodge lost this game. I thought the Jaguars would win and host a first round playoff game, but things just didn't work out that way.

Howells-Dodge (3-5) is at High Plains (6-2) in the first round of the playoffs Thursday evening.

The Storm's two losses are to BDS and GACC, two of the better teams in the state.

High Plains defeated Fullerton 62-14 in their regular season finale.

I think the Jaguars are going to have a tough time with the Storm.

I feel like Howells-Dodge is capable of winning, but with the game being in Clarks I have to give the edge to High Plains.

That's not to say the Jaguars can't win though. If Polacek can go off and get help from his teammates, this team has a chance at making a run in the playoffs.

The Jaguars have certainly underachieved this season, in my opinion, but a couple of wins in the playoffs would make things better.

I didn't see Howells-Dodge going 3-5 in the regular season, but they did. At the same time, it's the playoffs and it's the Jaguars. They are certainly capable of making things happen and winning on Thursday.

Kickoff is set for 6:00 p.m.

Lyons-Decatur Northeast loses to Wynot

The Lyons-Decatur Northeast Cougars lost 52-36 at Wynot in their regular season finale on Thursday.

The Blue Devils went up 32-6 at the end of one and shutout Lyons-Decatur Northeast 20-0 in the second quarter to take a 52-6 lead into the locker room.

The Cougars scored 8 third quarter points to make it a 52-14 game at the end of three and tacked on 22 fourth quarter points to make up the final score.

Benny Estrada had 11 carries for 143 yards, including two touchdowns. Montana Riecken carried the ball 21 times for 123 yards, and scored twice.

Bren Shatto and Marcus Hegy made 13 tackles each while Riecken and Tyler Kroger had 11 and 8, respectively.

Lyons-Decatur Northeast racked up 335 yards of offense, including 309 on the ground.

The defense gave up 398 yards, 258 coming on the ground.

I was surprised this game was so lopsided in the first half. I thought the Cougars would challenge Wynot throughout the game, and perhaps pull out the win. Credit Lyons-Decatur Northeast for not quitting and playing well in the second half though.

The Cougars (5-3) travel to Lawrence-Nelson (7-1) on Thursday for the first round of the playoffs.

The Raiders defeated Giltner 34-14 in their regular season finale, and their only loss this year is against Exeter-Milligan.

This will be a tough game for Lyons-Decatur Northeast, especially with it being such a long road trip.

However, it's the playoffs and certainly anything can happen.

The Cougars have to play optimistic football and believe they can win.

Lyons-Decatur Northeast has to start strong and finish even stronger. The Cougars need to play a complete, four quarter game to have a chance.

The winner gets either Wynot or Palmer, and I'm sure Lyons-Decatur Northeast would like another crack at the Blue Devils, especially at home.

It's great the Cougars get to extend their season for one more game, but I'm sure Lyons-Decatur Northeast doesn't want this to be their final game as Lyons-Decatur Northeast.

I think the Cougars want to hang around in the playoffs for a little while before reality strikes that the Lyons-Decatur Northeast Cougars are no more in football.

There's nothing better than playoff football in Nebraska, and Lyons-Decatur Northeast has to play for keeps.

The Cougars must have some luck go their way and must come up with a few trick plays to spring the upset in my mind.

Lyons-Decatur Northeast shouldn't change much from what they have done all year, but throwing in a wrinkle or two couldn't hurt.

Kickoff is scheduled for 4:00 on Thursday.

Scribner-Snyder ends year with win over Winnebago

The Scribner-Snyder Trojans ended their season Friday night with a 67-26 road win at Winnebago.

The Trojans went up 20-0 at the end of one and doubled up the Indians 28-14 in the second quarter to take a 48-14 lead into the locker room.

Scribner-Snyder won the third quarter 13-12 to go up 61-26 at the end of three.

The Trojans added 6 points in the fourth quarter to make up the final score.

Michael Broussard had 294 yards rushing with five touchdowns on 15 carries in his final game in a Scribner-Snyder uniform. Darnell Sims ran the ball 4 times for 81 yards, and scored three times in his last game as a Trojan. Gunner Palmer added 66 yards rushing on 9 attempts.

Chauncey Holmes led the way with 13 tackles while Sims made 11. Broussard and Brandon Noel notched 8 apiece while Kaleb Fischer recorded 7.

Scribner-Snyder totaled 525 yards of offense, 495 coming on the ground.

The Trojans didn't make the playoffs, but Scribner-Snyder saved their best for last, and turned in a great performance.

The Trojans finish the year 3-5.

I'm sure Scribner-Snyder isn't satisfied with how this season turned out, and would no doubt like to have re dos with Mead and Cedar Bluffs.

If the Trojans beat the Raiders and Wildcats they probably make the playoffs.

Scribner-Snyder was definitely a good enough team to be in the postseason, in my opinion.

The Trojans just simply came up short of reaching their goal.

Scribner-Snyder graduates quite a bit of talent, including David Dunklau, Sims, Sonny Lodl, Broussard, Fischer, Jesse Schlecht, Austin Lampkin, and Holmes.

These eight seniors contributed a lot during their time with the Trojans. Their contributions will no doubt be missed.

All Scribner-Snyder can do now though is look to the future.

The Trojans bring back Palmer, Marcus Love, Alex Nuno, Noel, Hunter Adams, Riley Meyer, and others.

I would imagine Jadyn Smeal will start at quarterback next season unless there is a transfer or incoming freshman who is better.

I think Scribner-Snyder has a chance to be good next year, but the returning players and newcomers have to dedicate themselves to the weight room and the practice field from now until August.

Champions aren't made during the season, they are made in the offseason.

Winnebago falls to Scribner-Snyder in final game of season

The Winnebago Indians dropped their final game of the regular season Friday night, losing 67-26 at home to Scribner-Snyder.

The Trojans went up 20-0 at the end of one and doubled up Winnebago 28-14 in the second quarter to take a 48-14 lead into the locker room.

Scribner-Snyder won the third quarter 13-12 to go up 61-26 at the end of three.

The Trojans added 6 points in the fourth quarter to make up the final score.

The Indians gave up 525 yards of offense, including 495 on the ground.

It was definitely a tough way for Winnebago to end the season. The Indians finish the year 2-6.

There were some bright spots for Winnnebago this year though.

The comeback win over Cedar Bluffs to start the year is something these kids will remember for the rest of their lives, and the win over Omaha Nation is definitely something to take pride in.

The Indians had a better season this year than last so it has to be a good feeling knowing progress was made.

Winnebago says goodbye to seniors Kadge Thomas, Roman Perales, Vincent Bass, Kalief Harden, Antonio Redhorn, Nakia Mallory, Kyle Urbanec, and Airic Brown.

These eight seniors will definitely be missed, but the Indians have to believe they have a bright future given all the players that return next season.

Bass is a big loss on the line, but I'm sure Winnebago has returning players to fill the void.

The Indians have to get bigger, faster, stronger, and better before the start of next season.

Dedication in the weight room and on the field will be important for next year's team from now until August.

It's not what you do during the season that makes you good, it's all the countless hours put in the weight room and on the practice field during the offseason that truly make you who you are.

Winnebago had some success this year, but struggled a lot of the season as well. There's definitely a lot of room for growth and improvement on this team.

It will be interesting to see what kind of season the Indians have in 2016.

Bancroft-Rosalie loses final game to Allen

The Bancroft-Rosalie Panthers gave Allen all they could handle in their final game on Thursday, but lost 36-28 on the road.

Both teams scored 6 first quarter points. The Eagles doubled up Bancroft-Rosalie 16-8 in the second quarter to take a 22-14 lead into the locker room.

Both teams scored 6 third quarter points and 8 fourth quarter points.

The Panthers gave up 226 yards of offense, all on the ground.

It was no doubt a disappointing season for Bancroft-Rosalie, who ends the year at 0-8.

The Panthers just started off on the wrong foot this season, and were never able to recover.

Bancroft-Rosalie played a good final game of the regular season though, and that's something the returning players can carry with them to the co-op team next year.

The Bancroft-Rosalie Panthers are no more, at least as far as football is concerned.

Bancroft-Rosalie says goodbye to seniors Dayne Wortman, Chase Bonsall, and Austin Bruning.

These three seniors made a big impact on this year's team, and their contributions will no doubt be remembered for years to come.

Tanner Bonneau, Trent Gatewood, Jacob Zuhlke, Kenyan Lovejoy, Nolan Smith, Zach Bridges, Riley Gomez, and Jacob Cole figure to be among the top returners from the Bancroft-Rosalie side for the Bancroft-Rosalie-Lyons-Decatur Wolverines next season.

It's hard saying how good the co-op team is going to be next year, but they should have a chance to be pretty competitive. The returning players from Bancroft-Rosalie need to dedicate themselves to the weight room this offseason and attend summer camps and conditioning.

It's definitely going to be a tough transition for some if not all of these kids, there's no doubt about it.

Bancroft-Rosalie and Lyons-Decatur are what you could consider rivals so it will be interesting to see how all these kids get along next year.

Wisner-Pilger steamrolls Laurel-Concord-Coleridge

The Wisner-Pilger Gators won 60-0 at Laurel-Concord-Coleridge Friday night.

Wisner-Pilger led 34-0 at the end of one and added 14 second quarter points to go up 48-0 at halftime.

The Gators put up 6 points in the third quarter and 6 more in the fourth quarter.

Hunter Waterman ran the ball 6 times for 133 yards, and scored three touchdowns. Cooper Vonseggern ran the ball 5 times for 100 yards, scoring three times.

Vonseggern was 4-6 passing for 132 yards and two touchdowns. Korrell Koehlmoos hauled in 2 passes for 87 yards, scoring once.

Wisner-Pilger racked up 431 yards of offense, including 299 rushing.

The Gators put together a fantastic game Friday night. I would say it was Wisner-Pilger's best game of the season.

The Gators (3-5) take on Oakland-Craig (7-1) on the road Friday night.

The Knights are coming off a 68-0 home win over Homer last time out, and have been impressive this season.

Oakland-Craig is a very good team who is battling for playoff positioning, and will no doubt bring it Friday night.

However, Wisner-Pilger has absolutely nothing to lose and should play optimistic football.

If Vonseggern goes off for the Gators watch out. If Wisner-Pilger plays the way they did last week they may have a shot.

It's asking a lot to beat the Knights, but it would be a great win heading into next season for the Gators.

All the pressure will be squarely on the shoulders of Oakland-Craig. Wisner-Pilger has to play loose Friday night.

The Gators have to play well if they want to win. Wisner-Pilger can't play like they did against Ponca and expect to win. It simply won't happen.

I think the Gators have a shot at the upset, but I could also see Wisner-Pilger getting blown out. It just depends on which team shows up Friday night.

Oakland-Craig spanks Homer

A week off didn't phase the Oakland-Craig Knights as they won 68-0 at home over Homer Friday night.

Oakland-Craig led 19-0 at the end of the first quarter and scored 41 second quarter points to go up 60-0 at halftime.

Oakland-Craig won the third quarter 8-0 to make up the final score as neither team scored in the final 12 minutes.

Hos Smith rushed the ball 4 times for 138 yards, and scored twice. Cole Mitchell had one carry for 54 yards, which was good enough for a touchdown.

Mitchell was 8-11 passing for 214 yards and four touchdowns. Cody Mace hauled in 5 passes for 122 yards and scored three times. Garrett Seagren caught the other touchdown pass for 55 yards.

Ben Smith finished with 18 tackles, including 11 solo.

Oakland-Craig racked up 520 yards of offense, including 287 on the ground.

The defense gave up 126 yards of offense, including 83 rushing.

It was a monster performance from Oakland-Craig. They were in top, championship form Friday night.

The Knights (7-1) close out the regular season Friday night at home against Wisner-Pilger (3-5).

The Gators won 60-0 at Laurel-Concord-Coleridge last time out.

Wisner-Pilger can be a dangerous team, and is better than their record indicates, in my opinion, but the Gators have been inconsistent.

Oakland-Craig is battling for playoff positioning, and cannot afford a loss.

The Knights are still probably in the playoffs win or lose, but a loss would no doubt give Oakland-Craig a lower seed.

Oakland-Craig has to try and contain Cooper Vonseggern.

This is a scary game for the Knights if you ask me. Wisner-Pilger has absolutely nothing to lose while Oakland-Craig has a lot to lose if they fall to the Gators.

I think the Knights will win, but I wouldn't be surprised if Wisner-Pilger makes things interesting.

At the same time I could see the Gators getting blown out given the way their season has gone.

A lot of it depends on which Wisner-Pilger team shows up Friday night.

Stanton shuts out Ponca

The Stanton Mustangs won 20-0 at Ponca Friday night.

After neither team scored in the first quarter, Stanton struck in the second quarter to lead 7-0 at halftime.

The Mustangs added 6 points in the third quarter to go up 13-0 at the end of three. Stanton put up another touchdown in the fourth quarter to make up the final score.

Cobin Warnke had 10 carries for 75 yards. Trey Erbst rushed for 74 yards on 16 carries.

Mitchael Sieh was 4-11 passing for 52 yards with two interceptions.

The Mustangs played a good game Friday night. The Indians are a better team than their record indicates.

Stanton finishes the regular season 7-2 due to a forfeit by Laurel-Concord-Coleridge.

It's not the worst thing for rest purposes heading into the playoffs if Stanton makes it in. But if the Mustangs are left out of the playoffs, what an unfortunate way to have to end the season.

We will find out after Friday night's games if Stanton reaches the postseason. Right now they are the 16 seed.

Tekamah-Herman drops home game to Omaha Brownell-Talbot

The Tekamah-Herman Tigers incurred another tough loss Friday night, losing 48-12 at home to Omaha Brownell-Talbot.

Tekamah-Herman competed better against the Raiders than some other teams they've played this season, but it was still a struggle for the Tigers.

Tekamah-Herman (0-8) is at Logan View (3-5) Friday night.

The Raiders lost 63-7 at David City Aquinas last time out, and have sort of played uninspired football these last two weeks, at least in my opinion.

It's the final game of the regular season, and the Tigers have to go out there and make it happen, and let it rip.

These underclassmen who have been playing due to injuries have now had a full season to gain experience and improve.

Tekamah-Herman should be to the point where they're ready to go out there and make it happen in the final game of the regular season.

Anything can happen with it being the last game of the year, and if the Tigers put things together and Logan View plays uninspired football again, Tekamah-Herman might be able to make things close and possibly win.

I definitely feel this game has the potential to be one of the Tigers' closer games of the season.

I'm not necessarily suggesting a win for Tekamah-Herman, but the Tigers are certainly capable of doing something and making things interesting.

It has been a long, tough season for Tekamah-Herman, but if something positive could happen Friday night, if something could go their way for once, it might be something to take away heading into next season.

Logan View loses to David City Aquinas

The Logan View Raiders suffered a tough defeat at David City Aquinas Friday night, losing 63-7.

The Monarchs outscored Logan View 28-0 in each the first and second quarters to lead 56-0 at halftime.

The Raiders scored their lone touchdown in the third quarter to make it a 56-7 game at the end of three.

David City Aquinas put up another touchdown in the fourth quarter to make up the final score.

Logan View definitely laid an egg in this game. The Monarchs are a very good team, but I think the Raiders are a better team than to be losing 56-0 at halftime.

Logan View (3-5) finishes out the season Friday night with a home game against Tekamah-Herman (0-8).

The Tigers lost 48-12 at home to Omaha Brownell-Talbot last time out, and have really struggled this season due to the number of injuries they've had.

This should be a win for Logan View, but the Raiders have to come out and play much better than they have the last two weeks.

Logan View has to care about this game, and be ready to fight from the get go. This is the last game of organized football most if not all of these seniors will ever play in their lives.

This is it. One more time to dawn the colors of Logan View.

After Friday night it's all over for these seniors.

The Raiders need to build a big lead early and continue to increase it.

Logan View needs to work in as many players as they can and get repetitions for the seniors who don't play a lot and the underclassmen.

The Raiders have to come together as one, and put things together for one memorable game Friday night.

North Bend Central falls to Columbus Scotus

The North Bend Central Tigers lost 49-10 at Columbus Scotus Friday night.

The Shamrocks went up 14-0 at the end of one and outscored North Bend Central 28-0 in the second quarter to take a 42-0 lead into the locker room.

The Tigers notched 3 third quarter points to make it a 42-3 game at the end of three.

Both teams scored 7 points in the fourth quarter.

North Bend Central gave up 354 yards of offense, including 300 on the ground.

It was a tough game for the Tigers. Scotus really took it to North Bend Central in the first half, and the game was pretty much decided by halftime.

The Tigers (1-7) host Wahoo (6-2) Friday night in their regular season finale.

The Warriors lost 22-3 to Bishop Neumann last time out after upsetting Scotus the week before.

Perhaps Wahoo was really high on the win over the Shamrocks and forgot to show up to play against the Cavaliers, but whatever the case may be, the Warriors are still a very good and dangerous team.

It's going to take an amazing and incredible effort and performance from North Bend Central to make this a game.

It's the final game of the year for the Tigers, and North Bend Central has to show some fight, toughness, heart, will, hustle, determination, tenacity, fire, and grit.

This is the end of the season for the Tigers, and for most if not all of these seniors, it's the final game of organized football they will ever play in their lives.

Forever is about to happen for North Bend Central, and I'm sure the Tigers would like to be remembered for doing something in their final game.

Somehow North Bend Central has to rise up and try and make this a game. Wahoo has a lot on the line in terms of playoff seeding, but the Tigers have a lot on the line just in terms of sending their seniors off in style, going out winners, and building for next year.

West Point-Beemer defeats Madison

The West Point-Beemer Cadets picked up their second win of the season Friday night, winning 28-13 at Madison.

The game was tied at 7 at the end of one, and the Dragons blanked West Point-Beemer 6-0 in the second quarter to take a 13-7 lead into the locker room.

The Cadets shutout Madison 7-0 in the third quarter to lead 14-13 at the end of three, and won the fourth quarter 14-0 to seal the deal.

Here is the scoring summary for both teams:

First Quarter Summary

Madison- Steven Vargas 11 yd Run Aron Reynaga Kick
WPB- Tate Toelle 50 yd Run Ben Jahnke Kick

Second Quarter Summary

Mad- Everardo Macias 5 yd Run PAT Failed

Third Quarter Summary

WPB- Riley Berg 6 yd Run Jahnke Kick

Fourth Quarter Summary

WPB- Tate Toelle 13 yd Fumble Return Jahnke Kick
WPB- Toelle to Berg 16 yd Pass Jahnke Kick

Tate Toelle had 114 yards rushing on 18 carries, including a score. Toelle was 6-11 passing for 51 yards with a touchdown and an INT.

Blake Schroedter made a team-high 8 tackles.

The Cadets totaled 241 yards of offense, including 190 rushing.

The defense allowed 227 yards, 184 coming on the ground.

This was a good win for West Point-Beemer. I wasn't sure if the Cadets could get the job done, but they did. Hats off to West Point-Beemer for a game well played.

The Cadets (2-6) round out the regular season at home Friday night against Wayne (1-7).

The Blue Devils were shutout 38-0 at Boone Central/Newman Grove last time out, and have struggled all season long.

Wayne's lost win is over Arlington, who beat West Point-Beemer. Ironically, the two teams the Cadets have beaten, Fort Calhoun and Madison, are teams the Blue Devils have lost to.

It's the last game of the year and anything can happen, but I think West Point-Beemer will get the job done.

The playoffs are out of the question, but the Cadets could go out winners and send their seniors off in style. Winning the last two games of the year could also serve as a building block heading into next season.

Toelle has to run the show for West Point-Beemer in his final game in a Cadet uniform. If he can do that, West Point-Beemer should be in good shape.

The Cadets need everyone to rally around each other and play well. I'm sure there's a lot of fight left in this team, and at this point it's all about playing for school pride.

No West Point-Beemer is not going to the playoffs, but this game is still significant to these players, coaches, fans, and even the West Point and Beemer communities.

While 3-6 isn't an ideal season, it's still better than 2-7.

We'll see what happens in the Cadets' final game Friday night.

Pender routs Scribner-Snyder

The Pender Pendragons blew out Scribner-Snyder 66-14 on the road Friday night.

The Pendragons led 36-0 at the end of one and won the second quarter 16-6 to make it a 52-6 game at halftime.

Neither team scored in the third quarter. Pender outscored Scribner-Snyder 14-8 in the fourth quarter.

James Bensen ran the ball 11 times for 164 yards, and scored three times. Tyler Nelson had 7 carries for 84 yards, including a score. Shay Messerlie rushed the ball 12 times for 65 yards, and scored once.

Dylan Roth was 5-7 passing for 71 yards with two touchdowns.

Leland Bowder finished with 13 tackles while Kolton Lemkuhl notched 10.

The Pendragons totaled 457 yards of offense, including 386 rushing.

The defense allowed 186 yards, 113 coming on the ground.

Pender (5-2) closes out the regular season Friday night at Wakefield (2-5).

The Trojans played Creighton tough last week, falling 48-38 on the road.

Wakefield is a better team than their record indicates, in my opinion.

The Trojans have lost close the last three weeks, and have come close to picking up wins.

Wakefield will be battling for their playoff lives as the Trojans may have a chance to sneak into the playoffs with a win.

The Pendragons are already in the playoffs, but Pender is playing for playoff positioning and a first round home game.

I think the Pendragons will find a way to win Friday night, but I definitely feel things will be close.

Pender has been a very solid team this season, but Wakefield is a respectable team and has had a respectable program in the past.

The Pendragons have to come out and execute at a high level.

Pender has to win the field position battle, and must play well in all facets of the game to come away with the win.

It could be an interesting game, in my opinion. However, the Pendragons could really use a big win to give themselves momentum heading into the playoffs.

Pender has had a mighty fine season so far, and a 6-2 regular season would definitely be something to be proud of.

Scribner-Snyder loses at home to Pender

The Scribner-Snyder Trojans suffered a 66-14 defeat at home to Pender Friday night.

The Pendragons led 36-0 at the end of one and won the second quarter 16-6 to make it a 52-6 game at halftime.

Neither team scored in the third quarter. Pender outscored Scribner-Snyder 14-8 in the fourth quarter.

Michael Broussard rushed for 70 yards on 17 carries, including a score.

Broussard was 3-11 passing for 73 yards with an interception. Sims had 2 catches for 63 yards.

Sims totaled 9 tackles while Broussard and Kaleb Fischer racked up 8 apiece.

The Trojans totaled 186 yards of offense, including 113 on the ground.

The defense gave up 457 yards of offense, 386 coming on the ground.

This was a difficult game for Scribner-Snyder. The Trojans didn't give themselves much of a chance to win by starting slow.

Scribner-Snyder (2-5) is at Winnebago (2-5) Friday night.

The Indians fell 64-6 at Guardian Angels Central Catholic last time out, and have had a difficult time competing at times.

Winnebago has played well at times too though so the Indians definitely are capable of putting a win together.

Scribner-Snyder might have an outside chance at the playoffs by picking up a win Friday night, but the Trojans need quite a bit of help.

Either way Scribner-Snyder needs to put things together and end the season on a high note.

It would be a big deal to send these seniors out in style, and go out a winner.

The Trojans need to build an early lead, and continue to score against Winnebago.

This is kind of a scary game for Scribner-Snyder if you ask me. There is no tomorrow for the Indians, as well as the Trojans, but I could see Scribner-Snyder building a big lead and allowing Winnebago to make a comeback.

Hopefully that's not the case, but that's just how I could see this game going.

The Indians started the season with a come from behind win and I could see them ending it with a come from behind win, but I could also see the Trojans winning as well.

It's a toss up game if you ask me. Scribner-Snyder needs to play well in all facets of the game to come out on top.

Winnebago falls to GACC

The Winnebago Indians lost 64-6 at Guardian Angels Central Catholic Friday night.

It was a tough loss for Winnebago, but the Bluejays are very good, and I'm sure the Indians tried their best.

Winnebago (2-5) hosts Scribner-Snyder (2-5) Friday night.

The Trojans lost 66-14 at home to Pender last time out, and have had a difficult season themselves.

It hasn't been the type of season Scribner-Snyder was anticipating, and I look for Friday night's game between the Trojans and Indians to be a great one.

Scribner-Snyder might have an outside shot at the playoffs while Winnebago is playing for pride.

I think this game has a chance to be crazy, and I think anything can happen.

I wouldn't be surprised if the Indians pulled off the win, and sent their seniors out in style while creating some positive momentum for next season.

This is the last time these seniors will dawn the Blue and White of Winnebago, and they have to play their hearts out until the very end as does the entire team.

The Indians have to slow down Michael Broussard, Darnell Sims, and Gunner Palmer.

Those three are legitimate threats to do big things in the ground game for Scribner-Snyder, and are solid players.

Winnebago has to tackle well. It's important for the Indians to wrap up rather than go for the big hit.

Winnebago has to force turnovers, and win the field position battle. The shorter the field for the Indians, the better off they will be.

It should be an electric atmosphere in Winnebago Friday night.

Guardian Angels Central Catholic blows out Winnebago

The Guardian Angels Central Catholic Bluejays kept things rolling Friday night, winning 64-6 at home against Winnebago.

Cole Kreikemeier had 97 yards rushing on 5 carries, including two touchdowns. Eric Klitz ran the ball 4 times for 87 yards, and scored two times. Tanner Hass rushed for 84 yards on 10 carries, and also scored twice. Nolan Plagge rushed for 59 yards on 3 carries, and scored once.

Plagge was 4-5 passing for 54 yards and a touchdown.

Mitchell Hass and Robert Schmaderer each had 7 tackles for GACC.

This type of performance was expected from the Bluejays, but give GACC credit for coming out and taking care of business. The Bluejays could have taken the Indians lightly, but they didn't, and came out and dominated from start to finish.

GACC caps off a perfect regular season with a forfeit win over Omaha Nation to end the regular season.

It's a big deal for the Bluejays to go undefeated in the regular season, but there are bigger fish to fry in the playoffs for GACC.

Howells-Dodge routs Fullerton

The Howells-Dodge Jaguars got back on track with a 54-28 home win over Fullerton Friday night.

Howells-Dodge led 8-0 at the end of one and outscored the Warriors 30-14 in the second quarter to take a 38-14 lead into the locker room.

The Jaguars won the third quarter 8-0 before Fullerton put up 14 fourth quarter points compared to 8 for Howells-Dodge.

Here is the scoring summary for both teams:

First Quarter Summary

2:03 #30 Luke Renter runs for 3 yards. (Two point conversion run by #10 Tyler Polacek good)

Second Quarter Summary

Fullerton 11:36 #45 Josh Wetovick runs for 10 yards. (Two point conversion run by #13 Will Meyer good)
Howells-Dodge 07:41 #30 Luke Renter runs for 21 yards.(Two point conversion run by #30 Luke Renter good)
Fullerton 03:40 #44 Tyson Hellbusch punts to the Jaguars 50 yard line. #10 Tyler Polacek return for 50 yards. (Two point conversion run by #10 Tyler Polacek good)
Howells-Dodge 02:37 #30 Luke Renter runs for 4 yards. (Two point conversion run by #30 Luke Renter good)
Fullerton 00:17 #2 Ryly Haughton pass complete to #44 Tyson Hellbusch for 35 yards. (Two point conversion run by #45 Josh Wetovick no good)
Howells-Dodge 00:01 #10 Tyler Polacek runs for 1 yards. (Two point conversion run by #30 Luke Renter no good)

Third Quarter Summary

Howells-Dodge 08:46 #23 Jordon Brichacek runs for 35 yards. (Two point conversion run by #15 Tyler Brichacek good)

Fourth Quarter Summary

Howells-Dodge 11:56 #22 Jon Yosten runs for 2 yards. (Two point conversion run by #22 Jon Yosten good)
Fullerton 00:31 #6 TJ Dubas pass complete to #44 Tyson Hellbusch for 26 yards. (Two point conversion run by #45 Josh Wetovick good)
Fullerton 00:12 #6 TJ Dubas pass complete to #12 Elijah Norman for 31 yards. (Two point conversion run by #10 James Lesiak no good)

Brichacek had 121 yards rushing on 9 carries, including one touchdown. Renter rushed for 76 yards on 10 attempts, and scored three times. Polacek totaled 66 yards rushing on 15 carries.

Polacek led the way with 15 tackles while Kade Hegemann and Zach Bayer notched 11 and 9, respectively.

The Jaguars had 320 yards of offense, all on the ground.

This was a great win for Howells-Dodge. The Jaguars finally played up to their capability, and got past the midseason slump they went through.

Howells-Dodge (3-4) is at Humphrey/Lindsay Holy Family (3-4) Friday night.

Humphrey/Lindsay Holy Family fell 40-14 at Nebraska Christian last time out, but beat Clarkson/Leigh 36-30 the week before.

Humphrey/Lindsay Holy Family has played well at times this year, and shouldn't be taken lightly whatsoever.

Both teams are probably in the playoffs win or lose, but both could improve their playoff seeding by picking up a win.

This game is a big deal for the Jaguars. Howells-Dodge would no doubt like to get to .500, and be on a two-game winning streak heading into the playoffs.

The Jaguars have picked the right time to start playing their best football, and I look for Howells-Dodge to turn in another great performance Friday night.

This team finally started clicking on all cylinders last week, and if they can keep it up, they can make a run in the playoffs I think.

The Jaguars may be able to host a first round playoff game if they win Friday night so that would be a big deal. There's a lot for Howells-Dodge to play for.

The game being on the road will make things more difficult for the Jaguars so we will see if Howells-Dodge can get the job done away from home.

The Jaguars have certainly taken their lumps this season, but a win would no doubt give this team a great feeling and some momentum heading into the playoffs.

Clarkson/Leigh blows out Cross County

The Clarkson/Leigh Patriots picked up a big win Friday night, winning 60-20 at home against Cross County.

Clarkson/Leigh went up 16-6 at the end of one. The Patriots doubled up the Cougars 16-8 in the second quarter to lead 32-14 at halftime.

Clarkson/Leigh outscored Cross County 20-6 in the third quarter to go up 52-20 at the end of three.

The Patriots blanked the Cougars 8-0 in the fourth quarter.

Kobe Paprocki had 154 yards rushing on 24 carries, including three touchdowns. Bradley Bunner rushed for 54 yards on 12 attempts, and Brandon Steffensmeier carried the ball twice for 50 yards, and scored once.

Paprocki was 4-8 passing for 140 yards and two touchdowns. Steffensmeier hauled in one of the touchdown passes, a 68-yard reception for his only catch of the game.

Bunner and Seth Thompson made 12 tackles each while Tyrell Pokorney and Colby Becker notched 11 apiece.

Clarkson/Leigh racked up 407 yards of offense, including 267 on the ground.

The defense gave up 233 yards of offense, including 200 rushing.

This was a good performance from the Patriots. Clarkson/Leigh did a nice job rebounding after losing to Humphrey/Lindsay Holy Family the game before.

The Patriots (6-1) host Nebraska Christian (6-1) Friday night.

The Eagles defeated Humphrey/Lindsay Holy Family 40-14 last time out, and have won six straight.

However, Nebraska Christian's six wins are against teams with records below .500, and Clarkson/Leigh will no doubt be one of the Eagles' toughest challenges of the season.

If the Patriots show up to play the way they have every week with the exception of the Humphrey/Lindsay Holy Family game, I think they win.

Teams have perhaps been maybe underestimating or not giving enough credit to Nebraska Christian so far this season, and the Eagles have made teams pay, but I feel that Clarkson/Leigh is a better team than Nebraska Christian.

The game is at home, and the district title is on the line. It would be a big deal for the Patriots to win as it would improve their playoff seeding.

I look for Paprocki, Bunner, and Steffensmeier to step up and perform well for Clarkson/Leigh. The Patriots could really use their production, and I'm sure they will be counted upon to produce and lead this team to victory.

Winning a district championship would be a big deal for this program. Clarkson/Leigh is certainly worthy of winning the district crown, and has played well enough throughout the season to deserve it.

Now it's a matter of going out there and taking what is theirs. The Patriots have to go out there and take it from the Eagles. This is Clarkson/Leigh's game to win, and their play has to reflect that.

Bancroft-Rosalie loses to Wynot

The Bancroft-Rosalie Panthers fell 66-22 at home to Wynot Friday night.

The Blue Devils led 36-8 at the end of one and won the second quarter 8-0 to go up 44-8 at halftime.

Wynot outscored Bancroft-Rosalie 16-0 in the third quarter to lead 60-8 at the end of three.

The Panthers notched 14 fourth quarter points compared to 6 for the Blue Devils.

Trent Gatewood had 68 yards rushing on 15 carries, and scored two touchdowns.

Bancroft-Rosalie totaled 193 yards of offense, 148 coming on the ground.

The defense gave up 313 yards, including 194 rushing.

I give credit to the Panthers for continuing to fight in the fourth quarter even though the game was decided. Bancroft-Rosalie could have quit, but they didn't.

The Panthers (0-7) are at Allen (3-4) on Thursday.

The Eagles defeated Winside 38-28 last time out, and have a lot to play for in terms of an outside shot of getting into the playoffs.

This is a must win for Allen if they are to have any hope of extending their season, but this is it for Bancroft-Rosalie no matter what.

This is the last time the Panthers will ever take the field as Bancroft-Rosalie. After this the Bancroft-Rosalie Panthers will be no more.

This is also the seniors' final game. There's a lot of young talent on this team that will no doubt benefit the co-op team with Lyons-Decatur Northeast next year, but Thursday is all about the Bancroft-Rosalie Panthers, and what they can do in their final game as a program.

There's a lot of powerful things working in Bancroft-Rosalie's favor this week. There is no tomorrow for the Panthers, this is the seniors' final game, and again it's the final football game for the Bancroft-Rosalie Panthers.

A chance to pick up a win and avoid going winless this season has to encourage and motivate these players. Plus the opportunity to knock Allen out of the playoffs has to have an impact on these kids as well.

This is the game where Bancroft-Rosalie has to be thinking things will all come together. All the frustration of losing this season just taken out in one game.

I certainly think the Panthers have a chance to make a statement on Thursday, and win their final game as Bancroft-Rosalie.

This is it for the Panthers. After Thursday, Bancroft-Rosalie Panthers football no longer exists.

Lyons-Decatur Northeast tops Emerson-Hubbard in shootout

The Lyons-Decatur Northeast Cougars pulled off a come from behind win over Emerson-Hubbard Friday night, winning 54-50 at home.

Lyons-Decatur Northeast trailed 50-30 at the end of three, but outscored the Pirates 24-0 in the fourth quarter to get the job done.

This coming after the Cougars led 22-8 at the end of one.

Emerson-Hubbard won the second quarter 20-8 to make it a 30-28 game at halftime.

The Pirates blanked Lyons-Decatur Northeast 22-0 in the third quarter.

Marcus Hegy rushed for 162 yards on 34 carries, and scored three times. Montana Riecken ran the ball 29 times for 124 yards, and scored three touchdowns.

Riecken was 4-7 passing for 94 yards with a touchdown pass. Jon Christiansen caught 3 passes for 84 yards, scoring once.

Riecken racked up 19 tackles while Christiansen, Tyler Kroger, and Hegy made 14, 12, and 11, respectively. Bren Shatto had 9 while Jayden Vetick totaled 7.

The Cougars totaled 407 yards of offense, including 313 on the ground.

This was a great win for Lyons-Decatur Northeast. The Cougars never quit, and continued to play hard until the very end, and got the job done in the fourth quarter.

Lyons-Decatur Northeast (5-2) battles Wynot (6-1) on the road Thursday to decide the district championship.

The Blue Devils defeated Bancroft-Rosalie 66-22 Friday night, and have rolled as of late.

Wynot is for real, and it's going to take an amazing game from the Cougars for Lyons-Decatur Northeast to win.

As good as the Cougars played against Emerson-Hubbard, they're going to have to play even better against Wynot if they want to win on Thursday.

This is the last game of the regular season, and anything can happen, that's for sure. Lyons-Decatur Northeast has to believe they can win and get the job done, and can't back down from the Blue Devils whatsoever.

The Cougars have to hit Wynot in the mouth and establish physicality at the line of scrimmage early and often.

Lyons-Decatur Northeast has to want it more than the Blue Devils.

The Cougars are probably in the playoffs win or lose, but a win would no doubt catapult this team to new heights and give them a much better seed than they will probably get if they lose.

Plus Lyons-Decatur Northeast would win a district championship if they pick up a win on Thursday so this one is for all the marbles.

This is what you practice and work for in the 100 degree heat in the summer, during the winter, and in the spring. All the offseason work the Cougars did will no doubt pay off win or lose against Wynot.

I think Lyons-Decatur Northeast can win, but it's going to be tough with the game being on the road. We will see what happens though, the Cougars have played some spectacular football at times this season.

Scribner-Snyder loses at East Butler

The Scribner-Snyder Trojans fell 78-14 at East Butler Friday night.

The Tigers jumped out to a 32-0 lead at the end of one. East Butler won the second quarter 24-14 to lead 56-14 at halftime.

The Tigers blanked Scribner-Snyder 14-0 in the third quarter to go up 70-14 at the end of three.

East Butler shutout the Trojans 8-0 in the fourth quarter to make up the final score.

Michael Broussard had 61 yards rushing on 17 carries, including a touchdown. Gunner Palmer carried the ball 18 times for 54 yards.

Scribner-Snyder totaled 170 yards of offense, 153 coming on the ground.

The Trojans gave it their all Friday night, but were simply outmatched by a superior East Butler squad.

Scribner-Snyder (2-4) hosts Pender (4-2) Friday night.

The Pendragons are coming off a 68-18 loss at the hands of Guardian Angels Central Catholic.

The Bluejays are for real as the Trojans found out, but Pender is still a good team.

It's going to be awfully difficult for Scribner-Snyder to beat the Pendragons this year, but the Trojans are fighting for their playoff lives so anything can happen.

Broussard, Sims, and Palmer need to have big games for Scribner-Snyder.

The Trojans have to rally around one another, and play as one.

These last two weeks have been very trying for this team, but I'm sure Scribner-Snyder feels they are a better team than what they showed against two outstanding teams in East Butler and GACC.

It's do or die time for the Trojans. Friday night's game is going to either make or break Scribner-Snyder's season.

The Trojans have to want it more than Pender, and their play must reflect that.

A win would be huge for Scribner-Snyder as it would put them in a good position to reach the playoffs.

Pender falls to GACC

The Pender Pendragons had a rough go of things Friday night, falling 68-18 at home to Guardian Angels Central Catholic.

Dylan Roth was 10-17 passing for 103 yards with a touchdown and an interception.

Kolton Lehmkuhl caught 6 passes for 82 yards, including a score.

James Bensen ran the ball 9 times for 58 yards.

Lehmkuhl registered a team-high 11 tackles.

Pender totaled 295 yards of offense, 192 coming on the ground.

The defense allowed 400 yards of offense, including 339 rushing.

It was a difficult game for the Pendragons. The Bluejays showed how good they really are, but I'm sure Pender feels they could have done better.

The Pendragons (4-2) battle Scribner-Snyder (2-4) on the road Friday night.

The Trojans are coming off a 78-14 loss at East Butler last time out.

Scribner-Snyder definitely hasn't had the exact kind of season they were hoping for, but the Trojans have done some nice things.

Scribner-Snyder will be fighting for their playoff lives so Pender has to be wary of that.

The Pendragons have an excellent chance to finish the regular season 6-2.

That would be quite the accomplishment for this program given where they have been in the past.

Pender has to slow down Michael Broussard, Darnell Sims, and Gunner Palmer.

Those three produce quite a bit for the Trojans, and have led this team all season long.

It's going to take a great effort from the Pendragons for them to win.

Pender will no doubt get Scribner-Snyder's best shot so the Pendragons have to be ready to fight for four quarters.

A win would be a good response to the GACC loss.

Winnebago beats Omaha Nation

The Winnebago Indians picked up a 48-14 home win over Omaha Nation Friday night.

This was a nice win for Winnebago, who probably played their best game of the year so far.

The Indians (2-4) take on Guardian Angels Central Catholic (6-0) on the road Friday night.

The Bluejays defeated Pender 68-18 on the road last time out.

GACC is the real deal, and I think Winnebago could very well find that out Friday night.

I think the Indians are capable of making this game closer than some might think, but it is going to be tough sledding for Winnebago, there's no doubt about it.

The Indians have to be optimistic about their chances though. Winnebago has to expect to win, and has to come ready to play.

The Indians have to find a way to slow down Tanner Hass. He has been a man among boys this year, and if Winnebago lets him run wild on them, they are in trouble.

The Indians have to be physical at the line of scrimmage, and must run the ball with authority.

Winnebago has to come ready to play for four quarters Friday night. The Indians will be fighting for their playoff lives, and their play must reflect that.

Winnebago has to go out there and have fun. The game of football is supposed to be fun, and the Indians have to enjoy the game.

Guardian Angels Central Catholic stomps Pender

The Guardian Angels Central Catholic Bluejays defeated Pender 68-18 on the road Friday night.

Tanner Hass had 279 yards rushing on 13 attempts, and scored 7 touchdowns. Nolan Plagge carried the ball 8 times for 51 yards, and scored twice.

Hass made a game-high 16 tackles. Luke Gnad had 10 while Eric Klitz registered 9. Tanner Ortmeier notched 8, and Jordan Peatrowsky totaled 7.

GACC had 400 yards of offense, including 339 rushing.

The defense allowed 295 yards of offense, 192 coming on the ground.

The top ranked Bluejays were as good as advertised Friday night. GACC rolled to the easy win, and made quick work of the Pendragons.

The Bluejays (6-0) host Winnebago (2-4) Friday night.

The Indians defeated Omaha Nation 48-14 last time out.

Winnebago has played well at times this year, but has really struggled at others.

It's hard to know what you're going to get from the Indians.

You know for the most part that you're going to get a great effort from GACC.

The Bluejays have looked like a championship football team since the first week of the season, and their play has been outstanding.

GACC hasn't missed a beat since Week 1, and it has been a very impressive thing to see.

The thing the Bluejays can't afford to have these last two games of the regular season is a letdown.

GACC should roll their final two regular season opponents, but the Bluejays can't come unprepared and not ready to play.

GACC has to respect both opponents, and play with tremendous heart, passion, desire, toughness, and grit.

Zach Bayer had one catch for 58 yards, which resulted in a touchdown.

Bayer recorded 9 tackles while Kade Hegemann made 8.

Howells-Dodge racked up 251 yards of offense, including 178 rushing.

It was another tough week for the Jaguars. Howells-Dodge played well offensively in the second quarter, but the Bulldogs simply proved to be too much to handle.

The Jaguars (2-4) host Fullerton (3-3) Friday night.

The Warriors lost 20-18 at home to Nebraska Christian last time out.

Fullerton is a decent team, but if Howells-Dodge can get things together for the last two games of the regular season, I think they can beat the Warriors.

Things just for whatever reason have not gone the Jaguars' way as of late.

Howells-Dodge had a promising start to the season, but has really struggled over the last month.

Injuries have taken their toll on this team, but the Jaguars just aren't having the type of season they're accustomed to.

There's still a chance to make the playoffs, but Howells-Dodge has to play well from here on out.

The Jaguars have lost to four teams 5-1 or better the last month so Howells-Dodge certainly has a better chance of beating Fullerton than they did those teams.

It's crunch time for the Jaguars. It's time for Howells-Dodge to step up and make the playoffs.

The Jaguars have to expect to win their last two regular season games.
