The Clarkson/Leigh Patriots lost their first game of the season Friday night, falling 36-30 at Humphrey/Lindsay Holy Family.

Clarkson/Leigh led 14-0 at the end of one, but Humphrey/Lindsay Holy Family won the second quarter 14-8 to make it a 22-14 game at halftime.

Humphrey/Lindsay Holy Family shutout the Patriots 8-0 in the third quarter to tie the game at 22 at the end of three.

Humphrey/Lindsay Holy Family outscored Clarkson/Leigh 14-8 in the fourth quarter.

Kobe Paprocki had 182 yards rushing on 30 carries, and scored two touchdowns. Bradley Bunner rushed for 149 yards on 23 carries.

Paprocki was 5-12 passing for 53 yards with two touchdowns and an interception.

Bunner had a team-high 16 tackles. Tyrell Pokorney registered 13 while Dominik Harper totaled 11. Seth Thompson made 10 while Colby Becker racked up 9.

The Patriots amassed 392 yards of offense, including 339 rushing.

The defense gave up 330 total yards, 172 coming on the ground.

I was awfully surprised Clarkson/Leigh lost to Humphrey/Lindsay Holy Family. I thought the Patriots would roll, and so did Clarkson/Leigh apparently. I don't know if it was a case of not being ready to play and being complacent, but this was a surprising loss for the Patriots, at least in my mind.

Clarkson/Leigh (5-1) hosts Cross County (3-3) Friday night.

The Cougars lost 38-28 at Heartland last time out.

The Patriots should be able to rebound Friday night, but they have to be ready to play.

Clarkson/Leigh has to be more efficient on both sides of the ball to come out on top.

The Patriots have to slow down Cross County's run game, and must run the ball the way they have all season.

Clarkson/Leigh has to be mentally tough Friday night. The Patriots have to understand that it takes a complete effort to win a football game.

Clarkson/Leigh can't afford to take plays off, and can't just go through the motions.

The Patriots have to play their best football, and must be hungry to pick up a win.

Clarkson/Leigh can't be satisfied with where they are at this season. The Patriots have to want more.

An undefeated season is out of the question, but a district championship is still possible. Clarkson/Leigh has to regroup and find a way to win Friday night.
