Lyons-Decatur Northeast runs over Winside
After starting off slow, the Lyons-Decatur Northeast Cougars erupted for 42 second quarter points en route to a 72-22 home win over Winside Friday night.
Lyons-Decatur Northeast led just 6-0 at the end of one, but their lead grew to 48-8 by halftime.
Both teams scored 8 points in the third quarter. The Cougars outscored the Wildcats 16-6 in the fourth quarter.
Marcus Hegy rushed for 141 yards on 21 carries, including three scores. Benny Estrada rushed for 91 yards on 9 carries, and scored three times. Montana Riecken also scored three rushing touchdowns on 15 carries for 85 yards.
Riecken was 5-7 passing with 130 yards and a touchdown.
Jon Christiansen made four catches for 100 yards, and found pay dirt once.
Christiansen led the way with 10 tackles while Riecken and Hegy made 7 each.
Lyons-Decatur Northeast had 462 yards of offense, including 332 on the ground.
The defense gave up 272 yards, 156 coming on the ground.
It was another outstanding performance by the Cougars, who have really been playing good football as of late.
Lyons-Decatur Northeast (4-2) hosts Emerson-Hubbard (4-2) Friday night.
The Pirates defeated Bancroft-Rosalie 43-8 last time out.
Emerson-Hubbard is a quality team, and the Cougars are going to have to play their best game to beat them.
This is a huge district game. The Pirates can get back into the district race with a win, but the Cougars can make it a two horse race with Wynot by beating Emerson-Hubbard.
Lyons-Decatur Northeast has played great football these last three weeks, and I look for the Cougars to play at a high level again Friday night.
I like Lyons-Decatur Northeast's chances of picking up a win as long as they play well.
The Cougars have dominated on both sides of the ball the last three weeks.
Lyons-Decatur Northeast has to be ready to go to battle for four quarters. The Cougars can't afford to get off to a slow start like they did against Winside. Lyons-Decatur Northeast has to smack the Pirates in the mouth, and play for keeps.
The Cougars need to have one of their better performances of the season to come out on top.
