Lyons-Decatur Northeast tops Emerson-Hubbard in shootout

The Lyons-Decatur Northeast Cougars pulled off a come from behind win over Emerson-Hubbard Friday night, winning 54-50 at home.

Lyons-Decatur Northeast trailed 50-30 at the end of three, but outscored the Pirates 24-0 in the fourth quarter to get the job done.

This coming after the Cougars led 22-8 at the end of one.

Emerson-Hubbard won the second quarter 20-8 to make it a 30-28 game at halftime.

The Pirates blanked Lyons-Decatur Northeast 22-0 in the third quarter.

Marcus Hegy rushed for 162 yards on 34 carries, and scored three times. Montana Riecken ran the ball 29 times for 124 yards, and scored three touchdowns.

Riecken was 4-7 passing for 94 yards with a touchdown pass. Jon Christiansen caught 3 passes for 84 yards, scoring once.

Riecken racked up 19 tackles while Christiansen, Tyler Kroger, and Hegy made 14, 12, and 11, respectively. Bren Shatto had 9 while Jayden Vetick totaled 7.

The Cougars totaled 407 yards of offense, including 313 on the ground.

This was a great win for Lyons-Decatur Northeast. The Cougars never quit, and continued to play hard until the very end, and got the job done in the fourth quarter.

Lyons-Decatur Northeast (5-2) battles Wynot (6-1) on the road Thursday to decide the district championship.

The Blue Devils defeated Bancroft-Rosalie 66-22 Friday night, and have rolled as of late.

Wynot is for real, and it's going to take an amazing game from the Cougars for Lyons-Decatur Northeast to win.

As good as the Cougars played against Emerson-Hubbard, they're going to have to play even better against Wynot if they want to win on Thursday.

This is the last game of the regular season, and anything can happen, that's for sure. Lyons-Decatur Northeast has to believe they can win and get the job done, and can't back down from the Blue Devils whatsoever.

The Cougars have to hit Wynot in the mouth and establish physicality at the line of scrimmage early and often.

Lyons-Decatur Northeast has to want it more than the Blue Devils.

The Cougars are probably in the playoffs win or lose, but a win would no doubt catapult this team to new heights and give them a much better seed than they will probably get if they lose.

Plus Lyons-Decatur Northeast would win a district championship if they pick up a win on Thursday so this one is for all the marbles.

This is what you practice and work for in the 100 degree heat in the summer, during the winter, and in the spring. All the offseason work the Cougars did will no doubt pay off win or lose against Wynot.

I think Lyons-Decatur Northeast can win, but it's going to be tough with the game being on the road. We will see what happens though, the Cougars have played some spectacular football at times this season.
