Stanton beats Laurel Concord-Coleridge by forfeit

Perhaps one of Class C-2's playoff snubs, the Stanton Mustangs won their final game over Laurel-Concord-Coleridge by forfeit.

It was a very good year for Stanton, who competed well with Battle Creek and beat everyone else on their schedule except for Oakland-Craig.

The Mustangs finished the year 7-2. I think Stanton is certainly better than a few of the teams who got into the playoffs.

It's a tough pill for the Mustangs to swallow. Stanton definitely deserved to be in the playoffs.

However, these seniors and this team went out winners, and in a lot of ways, that's better than losing your final game, even if it is in the playoffs.

The Mustangs graduate Kyle Sperl, Brook Klinetobe, Mitchael Sieh, Corbin Warnke, Grant King, Christian Stallbaum, Marques Matthies, Blake Huisman, and John White.

Each and every one of these nine seniors contributed in one way or another, and will be sorely missed.

Stanton's top returners for next year include Mason King, Hunter Stallbaum, Myles Nickolite, Trey Erbst, Alex Schellpeper, Logan McKeon, Ashton Flood, Dylan Hunt, Sam Christiansen, Parker Theisen, Gannon Tighe, and Henry Bohac.

For as much talent as the Mustangs lose, they return more.

I think the 2016 Stanton Mustangs will still be a good football team.

It will be interesting to see if Stanton can make the playoffs next year.

It's not often a team goes 7-2 and gets left out, but that's what happened to the Mustangs this year.

That has to motivate these players beyond belief to work their tails off in the offseason and comeback next year stronger than ever.
