Lyons-Decatur Northeast blows out Allen

The Lyons-Decatur Northeast Cougars were like a team shot out of a cannon last week as they knocked off Allen 70-6 on the road Friday night.

Montana Riecken had 208 yards on 13 carries, including four touchdowns. Benny Estrada added 104 yards on 10 carries, and scored once. Marcus Hegy totaled 57 yards on 11 attempts, and scored twice.

Riecken was 5-6 passing for 106 yards with a touchdown.

Hegy made a game-high 16 tackles while Tyler Kroger made 14. Bren Shatto and Riecken notched 11 each. Tyler Hardeman had 10, and Jon Christiansen and Jayden Vetick recorded 7 apiece.

Lyons-Decatur Northeast racked up 491 yards of offense, 374 coming on the ground.

The defense gave up 153 yards, including 135 rushing.

The Cougars forced four Eagles' interceptions.

I have to admit I didn't see this coming. I knew Lyons-Decatur Northeast was a solid team, but given the way the Cougars won Friday night, I think they can compete with anyone they play.

Lyons-Decatur Northeast played amazing football Friday night, and got the job done emphatically.

The Cougars (3-2) host Winside (1-4) Friday night.

The Wildcats won 44-22 at Bancroft-Rosalie last time out, picking up their first win of the season.

Seeing as Lyons-Decatur Northeast beat the Panthers 60-0 I don't anticipate the Cougars having any difficulty with Winside.

This is Lyons-Decatur Northeast's last "cupcake" game of the season as things intensify the last two weeks of the season with Emerson-Hubbard and Wynot.

The thing the Cougars can't do is get caught looking ahead.

Respect has to be shown to the Wildcats, meaning Lyons-Decatur Northeast has to come ready to play from start to finish.

This is a game the Cougars need to win if they want to win the district title outright.

The district could very well come down to Lyons-Decatur Northeast and Wynot at the end of the regular season, but the Cougars need to turn in another solid performance Friday night to build for that showdown.

Lyons-Decatur Northeast has to get up big early, and be up by enough at halftime to have the clock running continuously in the second half.

The last thing the Cougars want is Winside hanging in there and making things competitive. Lyons-Decatur Northeast would just assume put the Wildcats away early, and not have to worry about a close game.

As long as the Cougars are focused and ready to play, and they execute, winning big shouldn't be an issue.
