Lyons-Decatur Northeast blows out Bancroft-Rosalie

The Lyons-Decatur Northeast Cougars beat Bancroft-Rosalie in the last meeting between the two schools 60-0 in Bancroft Friday night.

Lyons-Decatur Northeast scored 28 first quarter points, and added 16 in the second quarter to lead 44-0 at halftime.

The Cougars added 8 points in the third quarter and 8 in the fourth to make up the final score.

Montana Riecken had 208 yards rushing on 21 carries, including three touchdowns. Marcus Hegy carried the rock 17 times for 96 yards, and scored four times. Benny Estrada rushed for 74 yards on 7 carries, and put the ball in the end zone once.

Jon Christiansen made a team-high 14 tackles while Jayden Vetick recorded 8. Bren Shatto and Hegy notched 7 apiece.

Lyons-Decatur Northeast totaled 410 yards of offense, including 381 on the ground.

The defense gave up 115 yards, all on the ground.

Head Coach Dan Maresh says the win was just what his team needed. "Yeah I'm really proud of our kids. We came out of our bye week with a chip on our shoulder, and really, really emphasized getting off the ball. And we really wanted to play physical because that's what Bancroft is. They're a physical team, they're going to get after you. So we really preached that to the kids, and they did a nice job answering that."

The Cougars did an outstanding job beating their rival for the last time. Lyons-Decatur Northeast played a complete game.

The Cougars (2-2) are at Allen (2-2) Friday night.

The Eagles lost 59-8 at home to Emerson-Hubbard last time out, but have played well in their other three games.

Allen is sort of in the same situation as Lyons-Decatur Northeast was last week in that they are coming off a blowout loss and trying to rebound.

This could be a good game, but I could also see the Cougars running away with things.

Lyons-Decatur Northeast played by far their best game of the season last week, and I look for their play last week to carry over into this week.

The Cougars have played their best football on the road this season so it will be interesting to see how Lyons-Decatur Northeast handles and approaches this game Friday night.

Riecken has to have another big game for the Cougars, and Hegy has to step up as well.

Lyons-Decatur Northeast needs the same type of effort they got last week. The Cougars need to play well in order to win.

It would be good momentum for Lyons-Decatur Northeast to be 4-2 heading into games with Emerson-Hubbard and Wynot to end the season.

The Cougars have Winside next week so there's definitely a chance for Lyons-Decatur Northeast to go on a three-game winning streak.
