Wisner-Pilger downs Homer

The Wisner-Pilger Gators rolled Homer Friday night, winning 56-6 on the road.

Wisner-Pilger led 14-0 at the end of one, and tacked on 30 more second quarter points to go up 44-0 at halftime.

The Gators outscored the Knights 12-0 in the third quarter to lead 56-0 at the end of three. Homer scored 6 fourth quarter points to make up the final score.

Cooper Vonseggern was 13-15 passing for 249 yards and three touchdowns. He rushed for 94 yards on 9 attempts.

Wisner-Pilger gave up 184 yards of offense, including 165 through the air.

The Gators did a great job of stopping the run. This was no doubt Wisner-Pilger's best performance of the season.

The Gators (2-4) host Ponca (1-5) Friday night.

The Indians are coming off a 49-0 home win over Laurel-Concord-Coleridge last time out.

Ponca is a much better team than their record indicates. The Indians have played a tough schedule, and things finally came together for them last week.

This is a battle between two teams who are playing at a high level.

A lot can happen in this game so Wisner-Pilger has to keep their heads up no matter what happens, and continue to fight all the way through.

Vonseggern has to have a big game for the Gators much like he did against the Knights.

I think Wisner-Pilger definitely has a chance to win if they play as well as they did against Homer, but it's not going to be easy.

I think this game is going to be close and could come down to the final drive perhaps.

I give the Gators the slight edge with the game being on their home field, but I could easily see Ponca winning. Both teams are tough, and are better than their records indicate, in my opinion.

The playoffs probably aren't realistic for either team at this point, but don't tell these kids this game doesn't matter. It matters a lot.

This game is a big deal to both of these teams in terms of finishing out the season strong, sending the seniors out on a high note, and building for next year.
