West Point-Beemer loses at Norfolk Catholic
It was another tough week for the West Point-Beemer Cadets last week as they fell 62-6 at Norfolk Catholic Thursday night.
The Knights led 27-0 at the end of one and tacked on 28 more points in the second quarter to take a 55-0 lead into the locker room.
Neither team scored in the third quarter. Norfolk Catholic won the fourth quarter 7-6.
Tate Toelle led West Point-Beemer in rushing with 72 yards on 21 carries. Ben Jahnke had 67 yards on 9 carries.
The Cadets totaled 215 yards of offense, including 176 on the ground.
There's not much to say about the loss other than all West Point-Beemer can do now is forget about it and move on to the next game.
The Cadets (1-5) host Pierce (4-2) Friday night.
The Bluejays are coming off a 49-28 loss to Boone Central/Newman Grove.
This is going to be another very tough game for West Point-Beemer. Pierce is no doubt going to be fired, psyched, and jacked up given what happened to them last week.
The Cadets hope the Bluejays look ahead to Norfolk Catholic, who they play on the road next week.
That could very well happen given the nature of that rivalry and how West Point-Beemer has fared so far this year.
I'm not saying the Cadets need Pierce to be looking ahead to be competitive, but it would certainly help matters.
Toelle has to have a breakout game for West Point-Beemer to win. The Cadets have to be much better on both sides of the ball than they have been the last two weeks.
The season started out with so much promise for West Point-Beemer given the fact they beat Fort Calhoun 22-19, but ever since the Cadets lost to North Bend Central the following week, they have struggled to get back on track.
This is the last real tough game for West Point-Beemer, and it would make the Cadets' season to knock off Pierce.
West Point-Beemer has to get up for this game and think upset. That's the only way the Cadets are going to get the job done.
