Scribner-Snyder ends year with win over Winnebago
The Scribner-Snyder Trojans ended their season Friday night with a 67-26 road win at Winnebago.
The Trojans went up 20-0 at the end of one and doubled up the Indians 28-14 in the second quarter to take a 48-14 lead into the locker room.
Scribner-Snyder won the third quarter 13-12 to go up 61-26 at the end of three.
The Trojans added 6 points in the fourth quarter to make up the final score.
Michael Broussard had 294 yards rushing with five touchdowns on 15 carries in his final game in a Scribner-Snyder uniform. Darnell Sims ran the ball 4 times for 81 yards, and scored three times in his last game as a Trojan. Gunner Palmer added 66 yards rushing on 9 attempts.
Chauncey Holmes led the way with 13 tackles while Sims made 11. Broussard and Brandon Noel notched 8 apiece while Kaleb Fischer recorded 7.
Scribner-Snyder totaled 525 yards of offense, 495 coming on the ground.
The Trojans didn't make the playoffs, but Scribner-Snyder saved their best for last, and turned in a great performance.
The Trojans finish the year 3-5.
I'm sure Scribner-Snyder isn't satisfied with how this season turned out, and would no doubt like to have re dos with Mead and Cedar Bluffs.
If the Trojans beat the Raiders and Wildcats they probably make the playoffs.
Scribner-Snyder was definitely a good enough team to be in the postseason, in my opinion.
The Trojans just simply came up short of reaching their goal.
Scribner-Snyder graduates quite a bit of talent, including David Dunklau, Sims, Sonny Lodl, Broussard, Fischer, Jesse Schlecht, Austin Lampkin, and Holmes.
These eight seniors contributed a lot during their time with the Trojans. Their contributions will no doubt be missed.
All Scribner-Snyder can do now though is look to the future.
The Trojans bring back Palmer, Marcus Love, Alex Nuno, Noel, Hunter Adams, Riley Meyer, and others.
I would imagine Jadyn Smeal will start at quarterback next season unless there is a transfer or incoming freshman who is better.
I think Scribner-Snyder has a chance to be good next year, but the returning players and newcomers have to dedicate themselves to the weight room and the practice field from now until August.
Champions aren't made during the season, they are made in the offseason.
