Clarkson/Leigh blows out Cross County

The Clarkson/Leigh Patriots picked up a big win Friday night, winning 60-20 at home against Cross County.

Clarkson/Leigh went up 16-6 at the end of one. The Patriots doubled up the Cougars 16-8 in the second quarter to lead 32-14 at halftime.

Clarkson/Leigh outscored Cross County 20-6 in the third quarter to go up 52-20 at the end of three.

The Patriots blanked the Cougars 8-0 in the fourth quarter.

Kobe Paprocki had 154 yards rushing on 24 carries, including three touchdowns. Bradley Bunner rushed for 54 yards on 12 attempts, and Brandon Steffensmeier carried the ball twice for 50 yards, and scored once.

Paprocki was 4-8 passing for 140 yards and two touchdowns. Steffensmeier hauled in one of the touchdown passes, a 68-yard reception for his only catch of the game.

Bunner and Seth Thompson made 12 tackles each while Tyrell Pokorney and Colby Becker notched 11 apiece.

Clarkson/Leigh racked up 407 yards of offense, including 267 on the ground.

The defense gave up 233 yards of offense, including 200 rushing.

This was a good performance from the Patriots. Clarkson/Leigh did a nice job rebounding after losing to Humphrey/Lindsay Holy Family the game before.

The Patriots (6-1) host Nebraska Christian (6-1) Friday night.

The Eagles defeated Humphrey/Lindsay Holy Family 40-14 last time out, and have won six straight.

However, Nebraska Christian's six wins are against teams with records below .500, and Clarkson/Leigh will no doubt be one of the Eagles' toughest challenges of the season.

If the Patriots show up to play the way they have every week with the exception of the Humphrey/Lindsay Holy Family game, I think they win.

Teams have perhaps been maybe underestimating or not giving enough credit to Nebraska Christian so far this season, and the Eagles have made teams pay, but I feel that Clarkson/Leigh is a better team than Nebraska Christian.

The game is at home, and the district title is on the line. It would be a big deal for the Patriots to win as it would improve their playoff seeding.

I look for Paprocki, Bunner, and Steffensmeier to step up and perform well for Clarkson/Leigh. The Patriots could really use their production, and I'm sure they will be counted upon to produce and lead this team to victory.

Winning a district championship would be a big deal for this program. Clarkson/Leigh is certainly worthy of winning the district crown, and has played well enough throughout the season to deserve it.

Now it's a matter of going out there and taking what is theirs. The Patriots have to go out there and take it from the Eagles. This is Clarkson/Leigh's game to win, and their play has to reflect that.
