Oakland-Craig knocks off Stanton

The Oakland-Craig Knights all but locked up the district title Friday night with a 33-14 win at Stanton.

The Knights went up 14-0 at the end of one and scored 6 second quarter points to lead 20-0 at halftime.

Oakland-Craig notched 6 more points in the third quarter to lead 26-0 at the end of three.

Stanton doubled up the Knights 14-7 in the fourth quarter to make up the final score.

Hos Smith carried the ball 25 times for 161 yards and four scores. Cole Mitchell had 81 yards rushing on 8 carries.

Conner Thiele had 11 tackles to lead Oakland-Craig. Tommy Nelson notched 10 while Bob Gatewood added 9.

The Knights racked up 294 yards of offense, including 250 on the ground.

The defense surrendered 310 yards of offense, including 238 rushing.

Oakland-Craig recovered five fumbles.

This was a very impressive win for the Knights. It was probably Oakland-Craig's best performance of the season, even better than Fremont Bergan.

The Knights (5-1) improve to 6-1 with a win by forfeit over Laurel-Concord-Coleridge.

You always want to play every game, but the week off will allow Oakland-Craig to heal up and rest and get ready for the final two games of the regular season.

Oakland-Craig has Homer at home next week before finishing out the regular season at home against Wisner-Pilger.
